  • Trip Report Magic Kingdom Half Day Solo Trip

With these last few days of July winding down, it brings the end of black out dates for annual passholders like me closer and closer. I decided to begin planning my first trip back, which will be Friday, August 15th.

In this first reply my trip report, I will take you along in the Fastpass+ booking process via the My Disney Experience app on my iPad.

Re: Magic Kingdom Half Day Solo Trip

First, I select my info, (my GF has to work that day )

Then I am presented with a list of attractions, everything that gets any kind of wait.

I will be starting off the day with a coin flip on what I will make a break for at rope drop, Anna & Elsa or 7DMT (as both are unavailable for FP+)

Then I want to spend the rest of the morning in Tomorrowland, ride Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear's and Tomorrowland Speedway. Since Tomorrowland Speedway always has a 30+ wait time, I'm choosing Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway as my first two FP+ reservations. I will arrive at the end of the wait time for the first FP+ and arrive at the second FP+ as soon as it's available (5-10 minutes after I get off the first FP+).

Then I want to head over to Liberty Square for lunch, Liberty Belle and the RoA, Tom Sawyers Island, and Haunted Mansion all without FP+. The wait for Haunted Mansion rarely goes over 35 minutes so I am sure I can do everything I want without having to use up one of my FP+.

After Liberty Square, it will be on to Adventureland. I want to ride PoTC, which again 35 minute wait at most, so no FP+. However, I have never been on the Jungle Cruise, and the wait is usually 40+ minutes. That will be my final FP+.

I will climb to the top of the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, and take a final last look at the park before strolling down Main Street, then head home, preferably around 3:30pm.

    I make my selections:

Once you enter the date you are visiting, and select what attractions you want your Fastpass+ reservations for, you are given 4 options of times available for you to book.

Because I am going for a half day and going for rope drop, I chose Option A with the early morning reservations of Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, and an after lunch Jungle Cruise excursion.

Did you see the option "Modify My Existing FastPass+ Selections"?

You can make changes to your FP+ selections at anytime.

I was taking a look at the wait times to start to get an idea of how the waits fluctuate through out the day.

The past few days, Jungle Cruise has had a significantly lower wait time than PotC. I'm wondering if I should change my FP+.

Thanks for posting these screen shots. I have never seen the technology in action before. I think it's pretty cool.

Thanks & you're welcome. I have seen a lot of questions and confusion as to how the FP+ system works, so I wanted to include the FP+ process in this trip report to show how simple and easy everything is.

Re: Magic Kingdom Half Day Solo Trip

I'm thinking about going to DHS instead of MK.

I have been to MK solo before. In fact, the last time I went to WDW before the black out dates started, I went to MK with no one else.

However, I've never been to DHS by myself.

If I change my FastPass+ selections to DHS, I will post screenshots of the process.

I would recommend it ^. DHS is a lot more manageable in one day then MK and remember you will have to deal with summer lines/crowds not regular off season stuff. at least at DHS you get lots of versatility in things to do, shorter wait times generally besides midway mania, and a better overall experience for just a one day trip.

Decided to change my FastPass+ selections from MK to DHS.

First I cancel my MK reservations:

Next, I make new reservations using the same process I posted making the MK reservations.

However, you have to make your selections from 2 categories, which makes things a little difficult, because you can only make one FastPass+ selection from the first category, and two from the second.

This kinda stinks because you can not reserve a FP+ for RnRC and TSMM at the same time.

Fortunately, ToT is offered in category 2. So I select TSMM (which I have not been on yet), Star Tours and ToT.

It seems like it remembered that my previous selections were for early AM, so this time the best match was for early AM.

You can see that they offer a variety of times throughout the day for you to make your selections.

I select the early AM option, and I'm all set!

No problem, that's why I continue posting my FP+ walk through. I know it could help people planning a trip, so I'm glad I could help you.

As for your question, yes, you are able to change FP+ individual selections without having without having to cancel your entire reservation. However, you can only change it to another attraction in the same park.

Here are some screenshots of the process:

First, I begin the "Modify My Existing FastPass+ Selections" screen. I select the "Change a FastPass+ selection for a new selection or time." option:

Name:	image.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	75.5 KB
ID:	7356602

Then I select which FastPass+ selection I would like to change:

Name:	image.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	56.8 KB
ID:	7356603

Then I decide wether I want to change the time, or the entire selection:

Name:	image.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	49.9 KB
ID:	7356604

I select myself as the only guest in the party to change the FastPass+.
I could see this being the primary use of this feature. Being able to change an individual FP+ selection for a specific person could be very helpful when a little one chickens out (HM, ToT). Instead of feeling terrible about missing out on there FP, they can just change it to something they would really rather do and not be scared at.

Finally, I choose an attraction with available FP+ reservations.
Keep in mind, you can not change a FP+ selection from category 2 to category 1. Example: You can not change a Star Tours FP+ to Great Movie Ride.
