  • [Pictures] Walt Disney World Reminiscing

I am 13 days away from a week's vacation to Florida. I will be staying at Pop Century for 5 nights, followed by two nights at nearby Bonnet Creek. The last time that I stayed at these two resorts was a 10 day trip in 2009. That's 5 years ago, and in some ways it seems forever, and in other ways it seems like yesterday. Things sure have changed in the last five years.

Five years ago, in August, I vacationed with my grandson, and his mom. This vacation, coming up, will be my first solo trip to Florida. I am excited about going, but lately the time has been dragging. So I did a small bit of reminiscing, and came across this trip report that I did back in 2009.

So, if things look a bit odd, or out of place, or don't make too much sense, well it's recycled material, to help me pass the time til I really am on the jet plane heading for Orlando.

I'll try not to bore you too much, and keep the commentary to a limit.

Getting my haircut at the Magic Kingdom Barbershop has become a tradition of mine. The Barber in the photo collage above is actually from my hometown of Chicago. We had a nice talk about that, and about his visit to Disneyland.

The small statues in The Hub at Magic Kingdom are almost identical. The White Rabbit is missing however, and Brer Rabbit is there instead.

ORDDU: My sisters and I hope you have the best trip to WDW ever, Barbaraann, duckling.

ORWEN: By the way, we're familiar with Chicago, too. We have friends in Hinsdale and have spent quite a bit of time there in the past; just not recently. There's a little park that used to be situated near the corner of York Road and Ogden Avenue that had a restaurant with a water wheel on the side. Ever been there? We have.

ORGOCH: Sure hope ya ketches yerself a lot a frogs this trip. From the pics up there it don't look like ya got much of a chance ta do that the last time ya was here! Break a broom stick!!!!

This time around I hope to get loads and loads of pictures in Epcot. It's a great place for photography. Not that I consider myself a photographer by any stretch of the imagination.

Pop Century is a fun place to photograph, and I am planning on visiting the sister resort, Art of Animation. It wasn't there, back in 2009. I wanted to stay there, for my up and coming vacation, but I got a better deal at Pop. I do plan on making the walk over, with my camera. Hopefully, I can come back with loads of photos. I especially want pictures of the Cars area.

I shall rediscover Animal Kingdom on my next trip. It always feels hotter in that park, than in the other three. Lots of walking. I can feel my feet aching already. I don't ride Everest, but I have a fastpass+ for Kilimanjaro Safari, and a few others.

I most look forward to seeing Wishes again. Spectromagic has been replaced by The Electrical Parade from California. The Country Bears are fun, and I will be sure to check that out. Lots has changed in Fantasyland, and I plan on spending a lot of time in my very favorite land of all. I can't wait to see the brand new Afternoon Parade. Hopefully, I will get a good spot, and lots of good pictures.

DHS was the park that I figured I'd probably spend about a half day at. However, with the addition of the Frozen offerings, I may do a bit more time . I sure want to see the Frozen Fireworks. I have never seen fireworks at that park. I like Fantasmic, and I hope to see the 8:30 show on the Wednesday of my trip. If I enjoy the fireworks, I just may return on the Friday of my trip, and see them a 2nd time. By that time, I may know a better place to stand.

I miss the fireworks. I remember them before the frozen and star wars special events has them and even before the mickey hat was put up. A big giant blow up of Mickey would come out of the roof of the Chinese theater and shoot fireworks out of his fingers as the major fireworks went off in the background.
