  • Rode IASW today (photos)

The newly refurbished IASW at the MK threw it's doors open today at 2:55pm for a sneak peek soft opening, much to the delight of the crowds visiting the MK today.

I was there as the whole thing unfolded (I know...I have no life).

I think you all know everything about this refurbishment, so I will be brief.

The biggest change is at the boarding area. Much to the approuval of many long time Disney Fans, the Mary Blair facade has finally made it's way to Florida, albeit, in a smaller scale (it was there before but mostly on painted flats in wild 70's colors). Now we have a smaller version of the clock to entertain us (no parading kids though..) and blue skies above. Gone are the colorful fountains as you started your journey. Gone also is the Sun-like sculpture that hung in the celing for about a decade or so. The entire boarding platform now looks brighter and a bit more compact than before, but much more kinetic with all of the moving props. Even the music here (and throughout the entire ride) sounded superbly clear.

Once inside the attraction, not much has changed. The dolls are sporting clean fresh costumes. Everything looks newly painted. ..and the music sounds great and slightly different from what I have always heard. Not sure what version it is..as I usually do not keep up or follow with that type of information.

All in all, the ride looks nice, and the boarding area is a most welcomed change. Enjoy the photos (some photos were blurry due to shooting with open lense, from moving boats. Hopeless, even with a tripod)

After the holiday crowds disappear in a couple of weeks, I am going to go to Magic Kingdom and see how IASW looks now. Although I can't stand that awful song, I am curious to see what has changed in the 10 months since the ride was last open.

you beat me to it. I also got a ride in at about 10pm tonight. Didnt get to the park until about 8:30...I was enjoying a few hundred North Flight Martini's at the Territory Lounge. When we got there it was closed but opened sometime between 9 and 10. Very light crowds until we left at 11. Wish we could score some EMH, but alas we are lowely annual pass holders. The ride was super crisp and clean. We are new to Orlando, moving from Southern California...so my recent memory is the Disneyland version..as this one had just closed when we moved here. I was very impressed....or maybe it was the drinks....

Everything was in working order including the ceiling props. I noticed a bit better lighting but not much difference.

Small World at the MK really loses something (over the other versions) because of the simple facade/entryway ... these pics do show they definitely made it look better than before. I'm actually looking forward to riding it next month ...

But WDW's Fantasyland really needs a lot of work. They still are down two attractions from a decade ago.

Oh I agree! Fantasyland and Disneyland is amazing from comparing it to what I have seen of video of the past. The remodel to open everything up makes it so much more unique! I love the pictures and I'm very excited over here. Thanks TDLFAN! It looks great... considering there is a roof over the fascade. :/

Yeah, but these aren't the kind of 'gifts' you can return if you don't like 'em.

                                Picky, picky, picky!

WDW's only going to have Lucky until July or so, though, right? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere... seeing him & getting new pics on E:E are tops of my list of things to do at DAK on upcoming trip. That and once agian hope I spot Joe Rohde wandering the park so I can bow down and worship.

Great pics, TDLFAN - but I think I may have told you that already.

Well, if these 'gifts' are anything like Stitch's Great Disaster or Journey Into Our Lack of Creativity or the horrific hat at MGM, I'd surely pay to send them back to Glendale.

And yes, Lucky, I believe, will just be here through the summer.

                                    Yes, it is fast....

                                    No, you can't drive IT.

                                    Drive it like it's stolen.

I have not seen any advertizement for Lucky at DAK, however, there are decals advertizing Everest as "new magic at AK" on the buses and monorails... Go figure.

The ads aren't that surprising, TDLFAN. Lucky will only be around for 2.5 months. Everest is ahead of schedule according to the talking heads at Disney ... and Joe Rohde himself told me to expect it to be up and running late this year. So naturally Disney wants to market it as part of the Happiest Celebration Until the Next One.
