Space Mountain at Walt Disney World is being painted brownish gold. Anyone know what's up?

Are they in the process of painting it or something that you've heard will happen?

I was just there the other day and didn't see anything. On the back maybe?

No April Fool, as of yesterday it's browinsh gold. Unless they had just peeled off all the old paint and are re-painting it white, it was like a tan brownish gold color. Only the bottom part is that way, the top is still white.

One of the things I always noticed was that there were multiple levels of paint chipping off of the sides of the mountain. My guess is that they have been trying to get rid of the older layers of paint, which would expose a heavily rusted dirty interior paint layer. I would think that they are going to sandblast and refinish the exterior to match the top cone.

After the fiasco at Disneyland, they aren't going to purposefully make the cone brown.

Suprise, Orlando, now it's YOUR turn to suffer the indignity! *Maleficent laugh*

Well, maybe not, but it's as likely a reason as anything else. Then again, maybe not.

                    ^^ Oh my...

I'm just going to assume (hope) that they are cleaning it up and re-painting it (please!).

In case you're confused, that's That's Disneyland's Space Mountain ala 1998. I guess I may have overestimated how familiar the WDW crowd is with the ideas that lurk inside Pressler's imagination.

Oh good grief, you gave me a scare. I guess I've seen the DL SM before, but I thought this was a current pic you were showing us!

Oh heck no, I can't make a round trip that quickly!

You need to study your Space Mountain domes. Florida has taller spires and what almost looks like a hole in the center of the roof.

This thread coincides perfectly with my current avatar (which will probably be changed in a week or so and then this posting won't make any sense at all!) This is Disneyland's Space Mountain last week.
