    Anyone REALLY miss Alien Encounter

Well, I did an entire stereo "ride thru" of Alien Encounter on the latest episode of The Meandering Mouse. I must say that it REALLY made me sad and now I REALLY miss that attraction. It was a C ticket type attraction but, man, the storyline was just great! The Stitch storyline is just weak and does nothing for me. Oh boy, lets watch an obnoxious little blue guy be obnoxious....The AA is great looking but who cares when the story falls on it's face??!?!! Perhaps Stitch is just one of those love or hate type of character's though...I dunno.

My favorite part of AE was the way they poked fun at corporate greed and the way corporations talk this HUGE game. In reality, we find out that they are fallable just like the rest of us. "If it can't be done with XS, it shouldn't be done at all!" Hahaha...man, that's great stuff.

What do others miss about this attraction??

If you'd like to revisit the attraction thru stereo audio, check out the latest episode of The Meandering Mouse. Info on accessing the podcast is shown below. Have fun!!

Let's put it this way, I was able to see the show with full knowledge of the entire script LONG before I saw it the last time

I remembered the parts like the maintanance guy getting eaten, and the whole Sarcastic S.I.R. but it is amazing what I had forgotten. It wasn't one of those rides I ended up knowing 100%.

It was suprising, because how scary would it have been without all that?
I'm glad you listened to it again and got all the humor in it.

Thank goodness the Alien franchise didn't go through and we got the attraction that we did. I highly doubt I would have enjoyed the Fox Alien storyline half as much as AE's.

never been on Stitch, but went on AE a few times, the first time I was scared to death, not knowing what was going on, but after that first time, the thrill was gone and it was just another 4D attraction to me along the lines of Tough to be a Bug.

There's a certain site out there that made an AE series of articles a few years ago that claims that AE was originally an Aliens ride that Eisner was nuts to build because he wanted to impress the pants off his teenage son who thought Disney was for wimps and kids. It then goes on to detail a story of how the whole thing turned into an arguement of Walt's Old Men VS the new design guys and how eventually somebody talked to Lucas and he was able to convince Eisner to tone it down and not go all the way into making a horror ride.

Of course, this could all be "misjimformation" as usual, but it seems plausable with the GMR attraction and all. That sequence freaked the stuffing out of me because I was in the far right seat of the car and turned my head right to see the AA hiding in the hole waiting to pop out! Thankfully there was some kind of poor timing or misfire and only the last couple rows ever got a good look at the thing in action. It was worth it to get such an up-close look at the Witch AA, but next time I'm going to claim the middle!

But all the time I couldn't shrug off the feeling that it didn't belong in a MK-style park. It felt more of a "Studios" attraction, and I would have loved to have seem an attraction based on the "Alien" movies using the same setup over at Disney-MGM.
Hmm... does Disney still have theme park rights to ALIEN, or just for The Great Movie Ride? Could this also work for DCA's Hollywood Pictures Backlot? Like having a Sci-Fi attraction experience? It would be interesting to see the alien eggs hatching in the pre-show right before you get in the main showroom. "Guests are the new secruity recruits to guard and maintain control of the alien spieces. All new recruits must report to the briefing room for alien cycle education..." or something like that. This would probably be the first time Disney would use an R-rated film as a basis for a theme park attraction...

I never got to see it, but I think it would have at least been interesting. The experience would have been served better at the Studios with it's lineup, though.

Stitch is dull! It couldn't keep my attention and I wanted to fall asleep.

I went on AE once and never wanted to go on it again. [Unsurpisingly] I love the Stitch ride and go on it every time I go to Disney.

Did you go on it before or after they changed parts of it (ending to Cinderella & Stitch projections during the middle)? As it stands, it never get's pitch black during the show.
I went on it with the cinderrella part. I know it dosn't get completly dark, but the little kids were still screaming. Especially when Stitch is running around. I couldnt really enjoy the ride with the kids screming and crying.
