At approximately 4:30 pm today, April 12th, 2006, while bringing the earth globe out to the lagoon it struck the bridge behind China. The bridge was not fully extended which caused the impact. There was damage visible to the earth globe and after fully raising the bridge, the technicians returned it to the service area to inspect the damage. I don't believe the damage was extremely serious but there was evidence of wires hanging from the globe around the impact area and some minor paint damage was visible on the bridge.

I have to admit it sounds aweful on the video! Scraping metal then twisting and popping sounds and the crowd was saying "whoa whoa Whoa!" I'll be heading back to Epcot tonight to see if there was any serious damage but I suspect the techs will get everything fixed in time for the show.

NOT good. I hope that there is some MAD money to fix that thing. I think it is wonderful.

that doesn't look even remotely bad in the pictures. I'm sure it will be a quick fix.

They better get it fixed up before May, or I will be SO ANGRY!!!

        ARGH!!!

Well, slightly bummed to say the least, ROE is one of my all time favorite attractions! I used to watch it almost every other night, and never got sick of it. It's a great vantage point from the IG, and there were almost never anyone needing help at the Turnstiles during the show, so we watched it A LOT!

Yeah... that globe was pretty cool when it first came out. It still is. I don't think anyone has a boat with a globe on it made of LEDs that can bloom with a torch in the middle and shoot out fireworks...

But yeah, fix the broken LEDs!!!!

So...did anyone see IllumiNations last night? I assume they wouldn't cancel it during one of the busiest weeks of the year, but they can't really run the show w/o the globe.

                    No luck these days.

Well it has to get fixed because far too long of the show is focused on it...but they still have a new show in progress...

they could always be cheap and add a Stitch that spits on people.. and claim it broke it.. (do not take your time fixing the globe.. and LEDs.. it is an expensive piece of the show.. and can be used in the next show as well..)

Steve Wynn has an even bigger LED TV than anyone at WDW in his front yard. Pictures don't do the size and resolution of the thing justice. As if the screen isn't fragile enough, it even has hydraulic action as his name moves up and down the screen and the images on the screen interacting with the video (for instance, in the golf club advert, the name moves upwards and appears to "bump" the onscreen golf ball into the hole.) I'm sure it could be straddled with fireworks if someone tried.

Now, if only Steve would have it rotated to proper 16:9 and turn on an HDTV channel. I would appreciate being able to watch American Idol from several miles away. Although his neighbor moving in next door might want to watch The Apprentice instead.
