  • Port Orleans Riverside Renovated Rooms

Does anyone know which if any of the Alligator Bayou rooms at the Port Orleans Riverside have recently been renovated?

Why, yes, yes they have been renovated.
Our last visit, which was in December of 2004, they were just beginning to renovate the AB rooms. They are now sporting new furniture, new carpeting, and a new paint job. I haven't seen them in person yet, although we are leaving for POR and Disney in just 3 days!! I will make sure to include the rooms in my trip report.

We were there in January..although we stayed at the AKL. We did stop by to check that resort out (AKL is expensive and next time we go we will have to get 2 rooms to accommodate our growing family.) Port Orleans and French Quarter come highly recommended. I must say I was very impressed. Again, I have not stayed there but I'm sure that is where we will be next time. We looked at other places and that is the only other resort I would consider staying at. It all looked newly renovated to me. Hope this helps.

I don't know but I have a Birbaum's 2006 WDW book that says that the rooms are newly renovated. I have no idea when this was done but it did look good. I wish I had more info for you.

Ok, so which blgs/sections should we request in order to get into one of these renovated rooms? Has anyone actually stayed in one that they know was renovated? And Aligator Bayou was mentioned, what about the Mansions section? Any of those renovated?

Also, outside of renovations, which bldg is the best to be in, distance wise, etc?

Well, and again I wish I knew first hand but from the book in front of me it says, "The resort is divided into "parishes." Closest to the "city," guest-rooms are found in Mansion homes; farthur upriver are the Bayou guest rooms, with a more rustic feel." I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

Their direct phone is 407-934-6000. I'm sure if you call them, they could easily answer all of your questions.

Re: Port Orleans Riverside Renovated Rooms

I'm pretty sure all of the rooms were renovated when they did it a year or two back. I'm pretty sure there were no curtains between the sinks and beds pre-rennovation. We stayed there in October 2003, when POFQ was totally down for work, and they did POR after that.

And interesting that the description talks about Parishes - that's what Louisiana has instead of Counties! Magnolia Bend vs Alligator Bayou is strictly based on preferences as far as location and decor, with ONE big exception. Only Alligator Bayou has the trundle beds that will allow a 5th person to stay in the room!

I beleive they were slated to be started after the FQ was done, then the Plantation mansions, then the Bayou. So last year they might have just been started, one by one. In fact, in the slideshow at http://www.allearsnet.com for the Riverside resort shows bayou rooms renovated. I remember the last time I stayed there a few years ago the rooms were much darker. There is so much more light now.
