  • The Odyssey In Epcot....????????

What is the Odyssey in Epcot's FW? Is it a restaurant or j/ an empty building? It's not on the Epcot Guide Map.

It used to be a fast food restaurant in EPCOT's early days, up until the FW rehab in 94 I believe. It was cute because it was never very crowded, yet there was a character show that was performed there, during lunch hours, several times each day.

Since it's closure, it has been used for special events, such as the Food and Wine Festival, as well as I believe a Mothers' Day brunch, among other corporate events.

I know I'm sad to see it go, as that was my family's lunch spot when I was a kid. Good burgers, and we got to see the characters too!

    Hope this helps.

      Oh, ok. Thanks a lot.

It seems that if it's only used for private functions now, they should take the "Odyssey" sign down. It only draws interest to an area that is not open.

The only reason I think they leave the sign up is to help people locate the Odyssey Center, which is what the official name is now I believe. It's where First Aid and restrooms are located...so it needs to have some sort of name I guess. And even the special events people need to have a name for the location of their events?

You'd think with all the crowds at the other restaurants, especially at the Electric Umbrella, they would reopen it. Would it really cost that much to operate? I guess there is the staffing problem. Hopefully someday it won't be quite the waist it is now.

it wasn't staffing issues.. it is slightly out of the way... and didn't get many people really.. and at the time they were shuttering resturants to save money as well.. and electric umbrella had alot of seating capacity so they kept it open while shuttering oddysee resturant and eventually closing the one across from electric umbrella as well...

is it me or does future world have a lot of empty space??

Odyssey was already closed by the time I made my first WDW trip. The only thing I always go there for are the empty restrooms inside it.

It used to do a fair amount of business depending on visitor levels.

It was closed in a cost-cutting move. Much like Adventureland Veranda.

I actually went in there like a week ago to use the bathroom. Its creepy and abandoned and as I was walking out this guy was like "hello" and he disapperaed. It was wierd.

Those inside bathrooms are some of the best kept secrets of EPCOT...no one knows there are the inside ones, just the outdoor ones near Mexico and the First Aid station.

I sooo agree. I also found some shelter there when it started to rain one day. Thanks for the info concerning this building...I always wondered what it was (I have been going to Epcot since 1992 and I never remember seeing it used.)

The Odyssey building in Future World is used primarily for special events, also half of it houses one of the two cast member restaurants (the other being behind the American Adventure).

Odyssey makes a lot of money with convention activity and special evetns. It's used at least 2x a week for Grand Gatherings and you're looking at $50+ per person. Nevermind the groups that come in and rent the place and buy lots of food and other things w/ crazy markups b/c its catering/convention related. Again, it's making a money )at least more than the restaurant the last few years before it was closed). If it's making money, I'd hardly call it a waste. Disney can sometimes make bad decisions, but sometimes they makes good ones (or at least a few that makes sense).

It's just like the people that complain that Disney is too expensive or just trying to get money...IT'S A BUSINESS!! They are around to make money, not be the salvation army.

Sorry, had to rant. Carry on...
