Disney's first 3-D attraction film. It originated at the Imagination pavilion at EPCOT (before it was replaced by Captain EO). Disneyland showed it during the summers of '84 and '85 at the outdoor Space Stage (obviously, nighttime only).

And after it left Epcot, it played in the MK's Fantasyland theatre (where the old Mickey Mouse Revue used to be before it got shipped to Tokyo in I believe 1981) for awhile.

An odd film if I could say so; it's idea was that it presented the world through a child's imagination and mind. There wasn't really much of a plot or dialogue to it. As for saying it was disney's first 3D, don't forget about the mouseketeers in 3D! Not sure if that added to the conversation... Hope it did!

Indeed! Magic Journeys was a truly bizarre film. It was basically a light plot about a child's imagination d over a bunch of 3-D movie gimmicks. I saw it several times in the Tomorrowland theater in Disneyland. Even back then the music seemed slightly out of date and the costuming very "3-years ago"

That witch sure scared the bejebus out of a lot of kids though. LOL!

Actually...Disneyland in California had a 3D film attraction way before Magic Journeys. It ran from 1956 to 1964!

It was in the old Mickey Mouse Club Theater (later renamed the Fantasyland Theater...not to be confused with today's Fantasyland Theater) in the old Fantasyland. The attraction was called "Mouseketeer 3D Jamboree." It featured a specially produced film just for the attraction in 3D featuring the old 50's Mouseketeers doing some song and dance and handful of your usual 3D stunts.

Also included in the show was a couple of 3D shorts. One was "Working For Peanuts" and the other was called "Melody."

It was however, not the same polarized 3D process that's used today. It was the old (then popular) Red and Blue lens stereoscope process. Still it was a lot of fun, and back then on a really hot Summer day...it was really attractive because it was "Air Cooled!"

Magic Journeys was created, produced and directed by a gentleman name Murray Lerner. I believe much of it was filmed in Europe. I can't remember if Disney bought "Magic Journeys" off-the-shelf and dubbed it and added the Sherman Bros song...or if the guy made some other film that Imagineering saw of his, and then ordered up Journeys. Just a little fuzzy there in the memory department.

Wikipedia doesn't have much on it and only says it's the first 3D film produced by Imagineering for a theme park. That may be technically true...but 3D Jamboree was produced by Disney for Disneyland.
