  • Eat to the Beat

Of course one of the finest aspects of Epcot's very enjoyable Food and Wine Festival is the Eat to the Beat concerts which are held at the America Gardens Stage.
That's the schedule for this year.
While I am in Florida... I've got the possiblity of seeing the delights of The Beach Boys, Little Richard, Three Dog Night, The Four Tops or Gloria Gaynor?

In the past I've seen Sister Sledge, which still amazes to me this day when one of their songs comes on the radio over here, to think that I've seen them for free at a theme park. But anyway, last year I think I saw Starship with BigPigletFan and Bill, which was pretty good, so if you're there during their performances it might be worth seeing them. My mum is a big Motown fan so I've got a feeling we will be stopping in for a Four Tops performance.

Anyone got any good memories of past Eat to the Beat concerts, or looking forward to anything this year?

Ooh. I've come over all nostalgic.
Only a month to go though!

    Re: Eat to the Beat

I'll be there on the 19th so I'll probably check out Three Dog Night... just because I *know* they'll play "Joy to the World". I remember my best friend in high school and I would sing it just for laughs all the time.

Jerimiah was a bullfrog *dun dun dun*
He was a good friend of mine *dun dun dun*

    LOLOLOL!!!!!

I really wanted to go see the Beach Boys (just to make my mom jealous because she LOVES them), but I moved my trip up to later in the week to meet a friend from VA Beach who's coming down for a work convention thing.

I saw Chubby Checker a couple years ago and he was a lot of fun. I really wanted to see Chic when they played but I couldn't get out that way. A friend of mine went and had a blast. But I made up for it when I saw Chic at Universal's Mardi Gras thing the next year (and got to go backstage to meet Nile Rodgers afterwards).

Does it get pretty crowded for that?

I'll be there to see Little Richard on the 18th and Three Dog Night on the 19th.

I've not yet been there during the food and wine festival... the last time I was there about this time, I came the week before.

Would love to see the Beach Boys...

            Re: Eat to the Beat

I really enjoyed Three Dog Night last year. There are only 2 of the original 3, plus a good young band behind them. But those 2 guys can still really sing, and it seemed like they were still enjoying being on stage.

I'll be seeing Survivor this year. Not a big draw, but it should be fun anyway.

And keep an open mind when going to see the Beach Boys. I don't know exactly what combination of guys makes up the "official" band these days. But I'm pretty sure Brian Wilson isn't touring, and Al Jardine is off doing his own Beach Boys "tribute" band.

Yeah I checked out the official 2006 line-up on Wikipedia, it seems only two original members remain, but it doesn't really bother me as long as they play the classics.

                Pretty crowded.
There are three shows each day, and while the last one (I think around 9:30pm) is the most crowded, you would struggle to find a seat in any of them.

Oh darn, I'm going to miss Three Dog Night by just a couple of days. I saw them a couple of years ago at a Fair and they were great. I didn't realize how many big hits they had. I'll be there for The Four Tops, Gloria Gayner, or the S.O.S. Band, meh.

Not that I'm a big fan of his, but what is Jon Secada doing in this list of has-beens? He's someone people actually pay money to see in this town, he's even playing in the place of Barry Manilow at the Hilton for $50 a pop while Barry is getting his hip surgery. Unlike most of these other washups, who would play Chrome at Santa Fe Station when they come here.

Hey now, you're the one who mentioned Journey! So, I'm thinking you're what...maybe 5 minutes younger than me?) And don't pick on Dan...he will always be young at heart as long as he still believes in the magic of Disney! And if his name is any indication he kind of has a lock on it. Although I am going to have to go look up the word punum.... But you're right, he does look like he's on the Enterprise there.

And Mickey-Mania, I love Jon Secada but his music was definitely late 80's early 90's. I wish I was going to be there for him.

That's one of the duty stations at the video production truck that I built a few years back. TDLFAN thinks I look too fat in that pic, but I think I just look like me! And it gives me a chance to tell people that I built a video production truck from the ground up, so that's always a plus for my tender ego.

Right. I'm not saing Barry Manilow (who Jon is standing in for) is hip or modern either. However, I see almost all of the acts listed above here in town, and I can tell you that they perform in little lounges and showrooms at smoky locals-oriented casinos. None of them perform on the Strip, or even a hotel off the beaten path that attracts some young people like Red Rock.

Jon Secada is pretty much the exception, though, since he's performing to paying audiences at a Strip megaresort right now.

Well kudos to you on that sweet mobile video production truck. A talent indeed.
