Miserably(sp?) hot and busy. I have to agree with captsmith here. We are going in Oct and taking my daughter out of school for 1 day. We picked a weekend when she already has a day off for planning so we could get 4 days out of it.

If you don't mind feeling sticky, standing under the beating hot sun, balls of sweat rolling down your back into your shorts and the permanent squint lines that form around your eyes from squinting so much, you may enjoy WDW in the Summer.

It's quite simple really, if you don't mind being hot and sweaty and can ignore that then you should go.

Then I recommend October, the weather is really beautiful, its not very humid and its also a good time of year to go. However, be mindful that Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party takes up most of the month but if you want to do that, I recommend it.

                Re: Summer at Disneyworld

For my very first visit to WDW, my parents took me out of school and we went at the end of September. Hands down the very BEST Disney trip of my life (see pic at left). That could be attributed to "first-timer" syndrome (you know, nothing's ever like the first time), but still, it's a trip that I will always remember and cherish.

Summer trips to WDW are still fun as long as you realize what to expect. Dealing with the heat, crowds, and long lines are a bummer but fun and excitement can still be had by everyone.

Have you thought about going during Thanksgiving or the Christmas break? Sure, there will still be crowds but you won't have to deal with the heat.

                        Re: Summer at Disneyworld

OK, I've stayed in Palm Springs, CA many times when it was 110+ and I've been to Laughlin, NV when it was 125 degress outside, so when I was warned that it get's unbearably hot in WDW in July, I thought "How bad can it really be?"

                        IT WAS HORRIBLE!

I have never sweated so much in my life! I sweated in places that I didn't even know I had sweat glands. As prepared as I thought I was for the heat, I was unprepared for the relentless humidity. We all (my family of 4) simply got sick and tired of sweating! 11:00 pm at night at DTD and it was still hot & muggy. At 6:00 am I'd walk over to the food court at POFQ (50 yards at best) for coffee and I'd be dripping wet by the time I got back to the room. And just when you think it can't get any worse, IT RAINS!

Don't get me wrong, we had fun at the parks and enjoyed experienceing WDW, but the constant heat and humidity wore us out and will always be at the forefront of our memories of WDW in July of 2005.

So, you'll know, most of July (and the rest of summer) is considered "off-season" for WDW because of the heat. True Disney vets avoid it like the plague. Only folks like us, who work around our kids summer vacations, are brave enough to tackle WDW in July.

See, nobody ever believes us Floridians when we say it's not the heat, it's the humidity.) It truly does make a huge difference in the way the temperature "feels".

                            Re: Summer at Disneyworld

We went the last week of July. And it wasn't too bad.
My advice, hit the parks early, before it gets too hot.
This is the best time for the rides as well.
When we went in the mornings, we never had a wait time over 20 minutes. Hit all the most popular things first thing in the morning, and then as the day progresses, and the lines and heat grow, move on to the less popular (but still air conditioned) attractions. If there is something you just can't get on because of the crowds, come back another day and do that one first (depending on how many days you have at the parks. We had a full week.)

I HATE to be all sweaty and sticky (which is a hard thing to stop in the summer heat when you are pushing over 300lbs like me), but I really didn't notice it. If it got too crowded or hot for our liking, we would just hop on a bus to somewhere else. Or even back to the room for a shower and change of clothes. Or stop off and get a meal or snack some place air conditioned.

It really wasn't nearlly as bad as I had anticipated based on everyones feedback from here.

                            Enjoy!

All good points! The best thing we have also found is to make use of the nightime EMHs. Just wait until the sun goes down. During July we were there when EMHs in MK were until 2:00am. We have 2 small nightowls anyway and they didn't seem as bothered with staying up late as with the heat during the day.

As bad as the hot crowded sticky days are, the nights, while slightly cooler, are just as muggy. You might have a daytime temp of 95, but an evening temp of 85, AND STILL WITH HIGH HUMIDITY! Wild dogs couldn't drag me into the parks during the hot summer hours. It's always spring and fall for me!

Let them miss school. Most parents go when the kids aren't in school so if you go when most kids are in school, you'll be better off in a few different areas.

If you don't want to be hot and sticky, then go in the "traditional off-season." September, October, parts of November (away from Thanksgiving), early December (away from Christmas and New Years), and most of January and Feb are nice times to visit. In the fall you might run into more rain as it's hurricane season, but it does rain almost every day in Florida most of the year so it's just something you have to accept.

Moving from that, your kids are still young. Having them miss school when they are 10 and 11 (5th and 6th grade?) is a lot different than having them miss 12th grade or college. Keep that in mind. Weather will be less miserable, lines will be shorter, prices may even be less expensive, and so your experience might end up being more enjoyable for the price you pay.

If you're looking at this upcoming year, there are Pirate-Princess parties coming up in Feb. that will be night events that they might enjoy as well. That's something fun that you can look into as well if you plan on visiting during that time.

Best of luck with your planning!

NO NO NO. I disagree with you on this Piglet. Parents should never take their kids away from school just to have a vacation at WDW at a different time other than summer. It's wrong. My parents never took me to WDW during school and I certainly would not take my children away from their schooling to do Disney either.

I'm not saying to have them miss school a lot, but maybe making a long weekend isn't such a bad idea.

From personal experience, I didn't miss a lot when my parents took me out of school to go - especially at such a young age.
