Mini report from MK/EPCOT today 9/22nd

[TDLFAN]

I stopped by the MK and EPCOT late this evening for a quick visit. Was able to catch a little preview of the MK's MNSSHP and also some of the progress made at Pixar's Living Seas. The high point of the visit: Cinderella Castle. Changes that made TDLFAN the Happiest Disney Fan on Earth.

True. Maybe it's a case of missing TDL since I was just there 3 days ago and their halloween and impecably dressed CMs are still fresh on my mind... But hey, I did praise the Castle, didn't I? Maybe because our Castle at TDL is partially covered under tarps...

I don't know, the MK's setting up for Halloween reminds me of Disneyland in the way old days.

Yes, you'd probably say that TDR would NEVER be caught correcting a backwards sign during open hours, and that the mickey pumpkins and ghosts are cheap, and you'd probably be right, but Walt's Little Park was the place where they decided to put plaques with fancy names next to the weeds because they couldn't afford trees.

So, in a way, your pictures kind of take me back to a simpler time. Thanks for posting them.


EDIT: Herb?! I thought Cindy's was designed by John Hench, who also brought you Space Mountain's Big White Dome.

I do not know if John Hench was involved in some capacity with the design of Cinderella Castle, but Herb Ryman *was* the chief designer of the MK's castle. Any casual Disney fan would know that.

Just to toss in my 2 cents...it always seems like TDLFan is unhappy with everything unless it is out of Tokyo. I know people have strong feelings about things, but you just do not seem to like anything. We know that TDL is well taken care of (it helps when a company will just hand over money) but WDW and DL are what we have and I think both are great the way they are right now...could they use more? Of course!!! But you can't change anything.

You are incorrect. I have also written positive reports from WDW when praise is due. So my question to you is... where have you been when I have written such reports? My report of Everest was quite positive, and so was one MK report in the beginning of summer... Go back and search them and then come here to tell me I "do not seem to like anything" about WDW.

I can't understand why people slam on it's scale, etc.. I think its wonderful.. and the views you get of it from Mainstreet as seen in some of your other photos just do it justice. Good to see they finally took down the 'clock face' kentic sign over the entrance too.

I can't believe there were so many work crews like that in the open on mainstreet A huge negative.

I've never been during October, but the photos of the decorations sure make it seem like I haven't missed anything Pretty unimaginative displays there in your photos. I think I saw alot of those at the local elementary school.

The use of hanging banners in the TTC plaza as seen in your photos looks really cheezy.

Its nice to see they are at least adding detail to the other portion of TLS now too.. but I was really hoping they would re-color or spice it up alot more. When I was there in May, TLS was really the lowpoint of 'ghost' of former glory.

the big time for decorations at WDW was always christmas, halloween just took off a few years back. well in the 90's when universal studios came up with halloween horror nights. actually I am surprised there are any decorations on mainstreet at all. I would think they would be over in frontierland and around the haunted mansion.

I am so glad they big honkin'changing "mirror" on the castle. That thing was an eyesore and a half.

Living Seas is looking good though. The new outside mural looks nice. Looking forward to seeing it in person in a few weeks.

No. I get way too much hate mail from many people in regards to my opinions on anything Disney (and particularly WDW). I would prefer to be contacted thru Micechat's PM.

Which have lost their charm for me since they are the same decorations we have been seeing on Main Street since 1971. Time for the Mk to do something new and eye popping, like DLP's decor this past Xmas maybe??

Which reminds me, I am glad they kept the original color scheme of things, as it makes the new colors on TDL's Cinderella Castle look more stunning and dramatic over the grey scheme here.

OMG!! NOT the JC! Ours is the worst version out there of the 4 in operation!! I can't stand the MK version of it. It's so 1974.
