  • Downtown Disney theater

I think that a great addition to the Downtown Disney would be the additioin of a broadway style theater. They could put on the Lion King there or Beauty and the Beast Tarzan or Mary Poppins there.
If that is not a good idea then maybe they could put on the type of shows they put on during the cruises.

I personally think that this would add a lot to DD and im sure it would get a lot of business on rainy days or something like that. I think thqt if people go to disney wordl to watch a movie on AMC movie screens then they would surely spend their time at a Disney Theatrical production

I think that they should probably not put Lion King there though since they have a Lion King show at AK but Mary Poppins, Tarzan and Beauty and the beast dont have attractions at the parks

I would like that idea as well, and Cirque be gone!
a Broadway style theater on property could be used as a test market for Disney inspired broadway shows before they hit the big time. If we had one, maybe, we would have never had to put up with the Tarzan fiasco on Broadway...

No, i have not seen a movie at AMC, have you.
I think it is kind of silly to have that at WDW, I guess it does its purpose and makes money but i dont see why anyone WOULD go to a movie when they are at such a magnificent place, you can see a movie anywhere, but you cant see a Disney Theatrical performaance anywhere.

I agree, Tarzan was a pretty good movie but i heard they just did a terrible job at a stage adaptation, they should limit themselves to one animal based pllay at a time (haha)
I also like the idea of no cirwue du solei and this ould be a perfect pplace to showcase ideas that may or may not work

Yes, I have. I think about three right now. Mostly the reason is because sometimes the parks closes too early and I still have some fun in me and that was when I would goto the AMC. But yes indeed; it is kind of silly to be seeing a movie when you can do that anywhere and even where you live.

I have seen Moulin Rouge,Chicken Little,& POTC: Dead Mans Chest while down there so far.

I LOVE that idea !!. It would add alot to Downtown Disney. Right now it just seems like a strip mall with a bunch of upscale stores (another place that is just after your wallet).

              Re: Downtown Disney theater

The Hyperion Theater in DCA was conceived and built with that in mind.

They have the fly space along with full staging capabilities and when I was on the Westcot 2000 board we were told that the theater could house Disney traveling shows or be a tryout theater for new productions.

It's never been used for that purpose but they already have a theater in place if they want to use it as such.

Yes, I had a feeling as so. I think that the Broadway show that never made it to Broadway, On The Record would be a nice addition if they did such a thing at WDW as I have thought that since I saw it.

                  that would fit with DCA...

it was a great concept... just didn't fit with what they imageined at the time...

WDW's would be a full fledge theater... like hyperion.. but be able to hold traveling shows... and be state of the art.. so they could go from tampa to disney.... lol then orlando is they needed to... or have some time at WDW then some time in orlandos...

                    Re: Downtown Disney theater

orlando already has a performing arts center and so does lakeland so unless it was totally disney entertainment, I am not sure the city would like the idea. Disney has already taken tourism dollars away from orlando. but a theater that did disney shows maybe in short runs would be fun. just figure on spending close to 100 a ticket if not more that is the going rate for broadway these days. and even for road shows.

Isn't that close to what Cirque charges anyway? I would be much more willing to see a trial run of a Broadway bound show in WDW than see Cirque, which had elicited from me no interest whatsoever.

I guess we have to remember that not everyone is a real Disney fan when they go on vacation to WALT DISNEY WORLD? :croll:

I enjoy Cirque a lot. But it isn't for everyone ... you know, like prissy flight attendants for example.

And if Disney doesn't use the Hyperion for such shows, when it was built with that as a supposed plan, it would be crazy to expect them to do so in a backwater like O-Town.

As for the AMC Theater, it's there for the locals as well as folks like me who enjoy catching a movie with friends now and then ... also, until recently the parks all closed so early that there was NOTHINg to do other than hang at your hotel or shop ... I'd rather see a movie!

What's wrong with Cirque? I love Cirque du Soleil shows. I've seen several of them. Although I think it's time for a new show at Downtown Disney now that LaNouba is approaching it's 6th year anniversary.

I am convinced TDL Fan hates everything related to WDW. The negativity in his posts are too high. YES, WDW has it's problems, then again so does Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland and yes even his beloved holier than though Tokyo Disneyland.
