  • WDW1974 wuz wrong ...

After stating for the past two years that DCA's ToT was just as good as MGM's, I've changed my mind.

I spent the better part of a day at the Studios this week and with a very empty park rode ToT 6-7 times in a row with basically 5-minute waits. I also closely examined the queue, the gardens and the hotel itself.

I left with the unmistakable feeling that I was indeed wrong. That DCA's version was a Barry Braverman special. Sure, it's OK. But Florida's version is WDI's best (or close to it) effort in every way from theming to pace and setup to the 'clunky' 5th dimension room to the random drop sequence ... the whole thing.

So I was wrong and am putting it on the record here. Guess I just hadn't spent enough time at the Studios since I detest the mess they've made of it and can't look at the BAH without thinking 'Did they even think about this?'

WDW1974, Wait until you see the one being built at WDSP and the area around it, and probably you will appreciate the DCA version. Frankly? I have no predilection between either one, and furthermore, can't even bring myself to compare them with TDS' TOT because they don't even look like the same attraction whatsoever.

DCA's is unique, but D-MGM's is the original and nicest "Disney Paid" version....

You should look at Tokyo DisneySea's. Definitely the best of the 3, theming wise.
          Arabian Coast at nighttime ~

They are all nice, I would say.

DCA scares me more. The Tower at the Studios I can at least deal with some of the drop sequences.

I just ride it for the effects and the nice view.

WDW's IS the better of the two. Boiler rooms should not be on a higher level than the lobby, case closed.

The WDW one also doesn't have the completely ridiculous profile, widened on the roof. It also doesn't DESTROY the ambience of the resort area around it, since TOT is likely the first thing a visitor sees at DLR and many motels sit in the shadow of it. Not that Anaheim has been a pretty place for quite a few decades, but a big ugly tower didn't help.

With a completely exclusive fiction to it, I don't think it's fair to compare the Tokyo one. For us California folks, that's like comparing Pirates of the Caribbean to It's a Small World.

                      ^^Will do tomorrow.

The thing that stood out most of all was just after exiting I was in line at the coffee cart and I turned around and looked up at the side view (above the gift shop where the queue/entrance) is and was just amazed again at how truly amazingly detailed this building is. The Terrace and the gardens and all just make it look like it was really a hotel ... not like the movie set version at DCA.

And as far as I've been told, the DSP version is a literal carbon copy to DCA's. It's location is awful ... even worse than DCA's. You just exit Studio 1 and there it is.
