This was proposed to be the Animal Kingdom centerpiece instead of the Tree of Life. A multi-level carousel.



And there was suppose to be a land built based on mythical animals. With a roller coaster called Dragon Tower and a Unicorn Maze. There use to be signs of Dragons on the Discovery River Boats.





I wonder if theres still hope for these concepts to be built.

I love the Tree of Life so the Carousel does nothing for me. But I will always hope the Beastlie Kingdom will one day happen. I also hope the Discovery River Boats may return one day as well.

There's a really cool aerial picture at my work that shows Animal Kingdom and it has Beastly Kingdom written and outlined. Apparently it was supposed to be right in front of cast parking.

I like the Tree of Life just as it is.... I know people claim this stuff all the time but I know someone who works at WDW admin who says beastly kingdom, particularly search for the unicorn maze is a lock-in..... after they get a couple new animal exhibits..... only time will tell if he was full of it!

Joe Rhode has talked about the Beasty Kingdomme concept often. There might be hope that one land will be built with this concept. Personally, I think the Carousel of Life concept is hideous. But, the general plan looks very elaborate.

i think the mythical creatures land could be cool if they did it right....but it would have to be done to the nines to be believable

I myself would love to see something with a dragon. After all it's still in the Animal Kingdom logo.

I just found this. Seen in the background of this concept painting, Dinoland was supposed to have a coaster called the Excavator near the Bone Yard.

I would love to see another land added to DAK. This park badly needs more attractions.

nah...Universal covers that..I mean, they have the dueling dragons...and all that mythical stuff...why should Disney add that? I think AK is great just the way it is.

The Tree of Life was the right call there. No question. Beastly Kingdom would have been (may still be - hopefully!) great.

No surprise with this as the Imagineers Disney let go (who created some of the Beastly Kingdom concepts) are directly responsible for The Lost Continent area at IOA.

I'm personally glad "The Excavator" wasn't built. A wooden coaster out right in the open like that is very DCA. I love coasters, don't get me wrong. I just feel it would be out of place.

I think that the Tree of Life is great as it is. But adding an addition land for fantasy animals is really genius! It is so much a better concept than the tacky Dinoland. I think it is every child's dream to see unicorns and dragons. Disney is about bringing fantasy to life. This still could be an addition to the park.

BK as it was originally conceived will never be built. Joe Rohde has told me so.

There will be more emphasis on imaginary/mythical creatures, but they will take other forms like the Yeti in Everest.

I love the Tree of Life so I'm glad they didn't go with the carousel. But I would love to see an area based on mythical/fantasy creatures.

I guess they realized this wouldn't work when they actually researched animals and realized birds like the peacock need to have their wings outstretched to make them fly. I would have thought that peacocks can't fly, but I just googled it, and turns out they can.

But I do know that birds need wings out to fly.
