  • WDW Turns 35 - The Thread

So, today's the big day. 35 years ago today the gates were flung open and WDW started out life with only a sister-park to Disneyland and nothing but ideas and dreams for what to do with all the property south of the TTC.

Did the parks do anything today (yesterday, depending on the time zone?)

Cast members are wearing buttons that mention the 35th. They have Expedition Everest on them with Mickey and the gang riding it. That's all I noticed.

Other than those buttons, everyone got new nametags. That's it.

Not everyone. Us CPs haven't received ours yet, but they have been ordered. And the nametags are for Year of a Million Dreams, not the 35th.

Can someone tell me what CP means? I know CM is cast member.

I was there, and I was suprised that they didn't give out even a sticker that said 35th anniversary.

So much for all the hype that the Parks have supposedly realized that these anniversaries mean something to the fan community.

CP usually means cast member in the College Program
sometimes CT is mentioned too which means Casual Temporary for seasonal part timers.

I really think that Disney is missing the mark here. I believe that SO many more would have made a special trip to WDW for the celebration. I think sticking with the weak "Year of a Million Disappointments" is really not going to draw people as much as the individual parks. This 35th celebration should have had a parade and commemorative pins and balloons. It should have been a party not a yawner.

For more information: www.disneycollegeprogram.com - it's been around for 25 years now with about 5,000 students on the program at any given time.

Re: WDW Turns 35 - The Thread

I know it's a day late but I'd like to say thank you to Disney for 35 wonderful years. You've been here in Florida since before I was born and my whole life has had you available. I can't even imagine what it would have been like without you. My absolute greatest memories from my childhood are found here and I hope to make many more amazing memories as I start my own family now.

Much of my life at home was spent with arguments amongst my parents or siblings, but when we were at Walt Disney World that all faded away. Our life was what family life should be like. It was all smiles, and hugs, laughter, and cheers. It even brought a few tears to my father's face as we'd leave you every year. For that I will be eternally grateful.

So even though you're starting to show your age a little bit, you still always have been, and to me, always will be "The Most Magical Place On Earth." May we share 28 more years together, and many more beyond.

                                  Hmm... the 35th isn't a huge deal.

Now the 40th.. if that wasn't mentioned, what would be mentioned!?

While the 35th is big to us fans (and what birthday isn't big to us) I can see it not being big enough for its own celebration. To me the 5th, 10th, 25th, and 50th anniversary's should be the ones with their own celebrations. Hence the reason I'll be severely disapointed if Epcot doesn't get something on its 25th next year.
