  • Siemens building the new Epcot? Any info?

I had my visit to WDW Jan 01-05 2007, and on the 3rd after leaving SSE, now after the exit where the old communications center (slipped my mind the correct name) was, in that "temporary" wall, there's a sign now with the following...

Something new is coming soon here, below says, Siemens is building the New Epcot.

Has anybody heard anything about this?
Seems exciting to think of new things being built by Siemens, sponsoring SSE, Illuminations, and the Osborne Family Spectacle of dancing lights.

It would be very good to have Future World again showcasing interesting technologies, and not dated things stuck in the 80's and 90's.

BTW, Siemens also builds trains and mass transport systems.

When I went to Epcot last October, the CM at the exit of SSE told me Siemens has spread their sponsorship throughout the park and to expect some great things in the near future. She sounded really excited about it so... we'll see what happens!

Following the sucess of SSE sponsorship, they have decided to put a large amount of sponsorship money into Epcot. I would think they would be putting in some major money if they project the Siemens logo on Spaceship earth as you leave the park after Illuminations. Just a side note: The Osborne Lights are sponsored by Sylvania....

The Osborne Lights are sponsered by Sylvania.
Did Sylvania not sponser RoE a couple of years ago?

That wall has been there for quite a while, since at least spring of 06. According to some people on AnotherDisneyWebsite, work is indeed going on behind those walls (and according to Orange County, Disney has filed some construction notices associated with SSE). But I wouldn't expect anything soon. As for Siemens, they now sponsor SSE (formerly AT&T) and their Sylvania arm sponsors Illuminations (formerly GE) and Osborne Lights (which I don't think used to be sponsored).

I know that AT&T sponsered SSE about 6 years ago. After that, I kindof remember Dewalt coming on board. Am I imagining this?

For most of RoE, GE was the sponsor (of course, they had to stop sponsorship once they took over Universal). Siemens/Sylvania came in early last year.

AT&T was the last sponsor SSE had. Don't know who sponsored it before them though.

Oh really? Last time I checked... being five days ago, SpectroMagic didn't have a sponsor.

They probably confused SpectroMagic for Disney's Electrical Parade, which Sylvania does indeed sponsor (along with the Parade of Dreams).

This bugs me to no end.

I wish my company would sponsor something. I wrote to the PR group and suggested SSE. Heck we are a major communications company. Thats what SSE is all about.

Its truly from a good of the company standpoint too, not that I would want access to a company lounge or anything like that, nah not at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to spread their name beyond SSE. The average layperson still thinks it of it as AT&T's corporate showpiece, from what I've found.

Spaceship Earth was sponsored by AT&T since the day Epcot opened. When the AT&T sponsorship contract ended and AT&T, then in financial trouble and not reaping any benefits from the sponsorship and decided not to renew, Siemens came onboard as the sponsor.

A new post show is being developed with Siemens for the post show area of Spaceship Earth.

                            Original Epcot Sponsors included:
Spaceship Earth - AT&T - (Now Sponsored by Siemens)
Universe of Energy- Exxon - No Sponsorship Now
Wonders of Life - Met Life - No Sponsorship Now, and now closed down
Horizons - General Electric Replaced by Mission Space
                            Mission: Space Hewlett Packard
World of Motion (Now Test Track) General Motors
                            Imagination - Kodak
The Land - Kraft (Now Sponsored by Nestle)
The Living Seas - United Technologies (No Sponsorship Now and renamed The Seas with Nemo)
The American Adventure - American Express and Coca Cola (No Sponsor Now)
The Liberty Inn - Coca Cola

Through some technicalities, even this has had two sponsors -- at least in name. Before it was opened, it was sponsored by Compaq. However, when HP bought Compaq, the sponsorship switched hands and names.
