  • Port Orleans French Quarters Resort or Caribbean Beach??

Hey everyone! If you haven't found out yet...my birthday is in 10 days!! (January 19th)

For my birthday, my parents are taking my nextdoor neighbor and I (she has the same birthday as me, we are 6 hours apart to the minute) to...you guessed it, WDW!!!

We're looking for a 'moderate' hotel, and the two that popped up at me were Port Orleans and Caribbean Beach. I'm looking for that 'Disney' experience, but i'd also like a good theme to it. What do you all suggest?

    Thanks!
    ~Dance

I would certainly go with CBR. But beware of the small room size.
The CBR food court is also far away from the rooms so be prepared to take a hike to eat.

I have been to both and I like Port Orleans better. First of all at Carribean Beach if you are hungry or want to go to the pool you have to drive to them since it is so big and at Port Orleans its right outside. You can also get a boat from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney.

I have stayed at PO and family has stayd CB. I was not a huge fan of PO but it was alright. You really can't go wrong though. CB I would choose.

I liked Port Orleans French Quarter. The river walk is pleasant. The kids liked the pool and the little slide. The dining is so so, but you can take a free riverboat shuttle to the other Port Orleans, Riverside, which is right next door and there are more selections, or you can take the river all the way to Downtown Disney and eat just about anything in any price range.

I have stayed at both and like POFQ much better than CB. The themeing of POFQ is very similar to the new vmk land. I will never stay at CB again. It is too big and spread out. When a resort has it's own internal bus to get around it is TOO big.

Thanks so much for all of your opinions! The thing is, we might not spend Too much time at the hotel since we're going to two parks and downtown disney.

Another Question: Which resort makes you feel more like you're in disney? We're looking for the 'Disney' experience.

I love the French Quarter. I would suggest that you post a thread in the WDW section also since there are many MiceChatters who don't play VMK. Or I can move this thread for you.

I prefer FOFQ over CBR. You may want to check out Coronado Springs though too.

POFQ is generally a favorite around here because it's small and it has different advantages (although different disadvantages too) from the other mods for bus service. I don't think I agree with people who say it's a deluxe in disguise, but it certainly isn't bad if you don't mind the lack of a real sit-down restaurant on that corner of the river.

Realistically, CBR probably has the least amount of Disney magic of the mods unless you come from somewhere up north where it's cold most of the year.

I have stayed at all the moderates and my favorite moderate resort is the Frech Quarter. The resort is very small so it is easy to get around. We would usually park out front and walk through the resort to get to our building, the atmosphere is that nice. The pool is fun too. The food court is just your average food court, but they do have beignets, which are awesome! It's just a great place!

If you are going soon, don't you think you should make reservations soon, too? Or is it not too busy this time of year?

Oh, and by the way, Happy Birthday!
