  • It's Tough To be a Bug TOO tough for small children?

I went to WDW not too long ago and saw the show It's Tough To be a Bug, in AK. I got freaked out a bit ( I sound really stupid, don't I? ) and I normally laugh these shows off, and say they're for 'babies'. I can't even think of this as a kid's show, with the smoke and the scary cricket and spiders and what not. And think about it - if it's not for small children, then who the heck is it for? My small cousin and I went recently, and she's 5. We had to leave the theater not even half-way through, and she loved the movie. My other cousin, 9 years old, got extremely freaked out with her eyes closed the entire time! Even I, as a teenager got a bit freaked out with the smoke effects that you can't even see past! This might sound really stupid and not a big deal, but I have to ask your opinions. Who do you think this show is intended for?

It's obviously intended for people who do not freak out. But I am all for putting problem kids thru this show, tied to their seast so they can't go anywhere. That will serve them well the brats!

I personally don't look while the spiders are coming down from the ceiling (I'm told when to shut my eyes and when to open them!). And I'm 28. I enjoy the general pandemonium I hear while shutting my eyes though! I also do not look at the huge snake in Indiana Jones! Sorry, people...these are the phobias! Can't face them in real life, not facing them at a Disney Park!
It's actually "Cars Land", not "Carsland".

It truly is a demented evil show, if only beacuse of the stink bug part. I hate it.

I went on the once and HATED it.
                  Never again.
                  Good morning, son
                  In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                  It was pain
                  Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

We went once when my son was around five and my youngest was one. My husband ended up taking the one year old pretty early into the thing and my five year old barely made it though. I thought it was rather clever but I guess I have a bug phobia, too and did not exactly enjoy it either. I am glad I saw it at least one time but I will never see it again and my kids feel the same way. It is a shame though because they really like Bug's Life, so I don't know who they made this show for either.

I won't go see Shrunk the Audience either because I have a thing with snakes. Yuck!

Heh heh! Reminds me of our '99 visit when our, at the time, 1 year old girl fell asleep in my arms just before the show started, and woke up just at the point when Hopper was doing his thing. She woke up, rubbed her eyes a bit, saw and heard Hopper and all the other chaos going on, started freaking and then looked to her daddy for some sort of reassurance. Well, unfortunately, the 3-D glasses daddy was wearing made him look like a bug and...well, let's just say I was one of the people counted as he was leaving, and it was a really good thing we got the seat closest to the exits! I still can't help and laugh at the look on her face when she woke up.

So, to answer the question, I think this show is intended more for teens than really little kids.

Well, myself being a teen, I did NOT enjoy this show one bit. I went with my best friend ( same age, 13 ) and we almost started crying. We were screaming at the top of our lungs when the spiders and the smoke came out. My 74 year old grandmother was yelling in Spanish to get her out of there, and my grandfather ( 77 ) was in there yelling in Spanish that he couldn't see past the smoke. We were one sight to behold. My mom was just yelling that she couldn't see, and the spiders were gonna fall on us. Now we stayed, but the people around us left, and it was only us and another family with 5 small children screaming and running around the theater. The CM had to come out and tell us it was OK. Looking back on it, we were pretty hilarious. I wish I would have had a camera, and I would have video taped it and posted it . I just honestly don't think that show is for ANYONE. LOL I just showed a range of ages from 5 - 77 and none of us had a good experience.

I really enjoyed It's Tough to be a Bug. The only part that really took me by surprise was being stung on my bum.

I must be cruel too, because when I go to AK, I make bets with my mom as to how many kids get scared enough to leave right as Hopper comes out. *snicker*
