  • Russia as a Country in Epcot

Even though I would also love to see a Brazil and Greece pavilion, a Russia Pavilion is my number one priority. Here's what I would do for a Russia Pavilion

Russia: A model of the Saint Basil's Cathedral stands out in thr front where the entire pavilion rests.
Inside is a very elegent Russian indoor mall look with:

Two resturants (One buffet family resturant with some sort of a ballet theme and another resturant elegant Adult resturant with sword dancers and Opera).

Plenty of shops, selling plenty of Russia clothes, books, movies, theater stuff, and more.

A movie showcasing the history of the contry, the rise and fall of the Soviet Union and modern Russia. The use of Annimatronics are possible

A slow ride themed to the History of Opera.

Imagine during Christmas time when a Disney themed Nutcracker ballet with Mickey and the gang as the players performing during Christmas time.

    What do you all think?

I will post my ideas for other country pavilions later.

Hmmm, not too sure about that. The genecide might turn some people off from the show.

It won't happen. Disney is no longer interested in adding to World Showcase.. and now that Russia has embraced democracy, I am sure their leaders would rather pocket their money and not spending it to build something like that. Personally, I would have loved to see the originally announced pavillions that once were advertized at EPCOT Center as "Coming Soon" showcases: Spain, Israel, and Equatorial Africa.

Yeah, I can see that Russia would no longer be a good candidate for a country in the World Showcase. Since late 1980's early 1990's Russia has become somewhat of a "has been super power".(IMHO, YMMV)

The other countries would be interesting, and one I never saw on any list (except in the Millenium Village) Greece. Greece is (to me) a very interesting country with lots of meaningful history that directly affects the modern world. I believe that Spain and Israel also have a history that direclty affects the modern world as well.

Disney would accept more nations if they a check paved the way. There are very few countries and or sponsors that can afford to be part of WS. Africa was high on the list as well. Isreal and Spain has been courted for along time with no sponsor takers. Even Switzerland was investigated. Now if they don't write the check who will? Dubai?

Re: Russia as a Country in Epcot

I Think Russia is still an important country to
place in World Showcase. And certainly St. Basil's
is and has been and will remain a landmark for Russia.

              Brazil/Rio/Argentina/Chille combo would add the
South American flair that World Showcase is completely
missing. And Carnivale would be a great way to celebrate
              those countries.

Australia NEEDS to be a part of World Showcase in
some manner. Unfortunately for EPCOT, Australia
probably is planned for Animal Kingdom. Well, if they
can do a pavillion for Australia in AK, I guess that
would be ok. BUT IT IS NEEDED SOMEWHERE!

Israel is certainly an important country to have
represented in EPCOT. So many amazing things
              to showcase about that country.

India is definitely a necessity for EPCOT. It is
the 2nd largest poplulation (next to China)
and it's culture is certainly different than any
              other country in EPCOT.

Egypt, with it Pyramids and ancient history,
is certainly a country that deserves it's own
              place in EPCOT.

Greece ~ Yes, this country should be represented,
also. BUT the previous countries listed, should
definitely be higher priorities. It just seems to be
a little bit of an overlap with Italy, already in the
World Showcase. Certainly, there are enough differences
between the two countries to warrant a Grecian Pavillion,
but again, not needed, before the countries listed above.

Equatorial Africa ~ Not needed in EPCOT (although a small
area is nice, just for acknowledgement. Animal Kingdom
"stole" this country, so there is no need for a full scale
duplicate version. (If they want to add some Equatorial Africa
promo movie in AK, that would be cool.)
Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. Ya can't cover pooh with honey and 'spect people ta like it.

Beautiful country. Was just there in mid-April. Athens has beautiful buildings and the medieval island of Rhodes would look absolutely stunning as a recreation in Epcot.

I think you may be on to somethng here. South America as a continent could be recognized as a conglomerate of Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Not sure one country by itself could or would be a good candidate for a WS country, but as a group it just could make it.

I also think that another poster had a good idea. Bring back something like the Millenium Village where lots of other countries could have smaller exhibits. Many countries probably don't want to expend the resources for a full-blown WS country, but as a smaller, less expensive presence they might show up.

                  Just MHO, YMMV

Where would any of this go? I don't recall there being a ton of open space in World Showcase.

I've got a novel thought... how about Disney add on to their theme park themselves? You know, build a land for the sake of adding attractions. (A novel thought, I know)

They could even pull it off by making a deal with the country in question where they claim to have sponsored it so Disney doesn't lose face with its other sponsors. Or get the country in question to at least rent a "vendor" space for their tourist board.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

There is still a lot of space left in WS. Its just well disguised as nothing is there right now. On the backstage magic tour I took our guide said there was room for 6 (or 7, I don't remember exactly) more country pavillions.

Would love to see Russia and Greece.
Perhaps a nice frosty white restaurant that makes it feel like you are eating out on the frozen plains. And a vodka bar similar to Mexico's proposed tequila bar. mmmmmm......

This post by Flotsam_Mike made me curious. I knew there was some open space, but..

Just how much open space there was really a surprise to me.

I went to Google Maps, got to EPCOT, went to sattllite view and took some screenshots of the World Showcase. Those of you who are familiar with the landmarks will recognize the locaitons immediately, for others, I hope my cues will help. The entire journey is in a counter-clockwise manner. Have a look...

i thought i read somewhere that there was space for at least three more countries but they could add as many as six. it's been awhile since i read it though. I would love to see russian paviliam just because russia is so full of culture. Instead of a movie how about a live performance theater with ballet dancers and opera singers as well as some kind of ride. Just my opinion of course but i think there are enough movies in World showcase. I would also love to see a greek pavilion. just think of the animatronic attraction you could do around greek mythology and base it in an acropolis type theater. that would be something to see. also a greek restaurant and russian restaurant would add alot to the flavors of World showcasse.
