UPDATE: The Case is Now Closed

    ================================================== =====

Two young tourists from Connecticut were finishing up the first day of their Walt Disney World vacation just after midnight on Sunday when a man in a black car called out to them.
Thinking they were just answering an innocuous question, the couple walked over to the car in the Downtown Disney parking lot.
That is when their vacation turned violent.
At gunpoint, Justin Stetzer and Jessica DellaCamera, both 20, were forced inside the Volkswagen Jetta, driven around and then Stetzer was ordered to withdraw money from an automated-teller machine.
After nearly an hour, the three suspects took Stetzer and DellaCamera to a remote location near an Osceola County landfill, forced them out of the car and beat them.
That is when the couple fought back and the gun discharged during the scuffle, scaring the suspects -- who panicked and fled.
"They just thought they were at the end of the road," Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons of the victims.

I think that there is a little more to this story than what is reported here.

How horrible! I hope those two are okay after an experience like this.

Nothing that doesn't happen every day all over the world. Just because it happens at WDW seems to make it unique and newsworthy...

I agree. When somethign happens at WDW it is MAJOR news. But if this were to happen somewhere else you would not have heard a thing

True, but all this stuff has happened at WDW in a relatively short timeframe, which in turn raises some eyebrows.

But is it really that more has happened recently or just that it has been reported? I wonder how many of these things happen every week at WDW and we just don't hear about them. I mean, I bet security gets called every day due to skirmishes between guests....And because it is WDW people think it shouldn't happen there? No offense to anyone from NY this is just an example, but when you hear of a tourist getting mugged in Times Square, no one is surprised, like it happens every day...But getting mugged at WDW can't happen because it is "The Happiest Place on Earth"? A lot of people seem to have a false sense of secuirty anytime they are on WDW property...but bad things happen to good people everywhere and unfortunately there are bad people everywhere as well.

                    Because it is at WDW.

Because it is the world's No. 1 family travel destination.

                    It should be.

It's also very scary because this could frankly happen so much more than it does if the real evildoers wanted to regularly hit on tourists at WDW locales.

I very much agree. Had it happened somewhere else, "no big deal". But sadly, there ARE bad thing happening everywhere, and since this is DISNEY, it's a huge deal. I think WDW is just having a terrible run of bad luck lately.

I don't think so. WDW property is big. You just can't watch everyone-especially after midnight.
I wonder if it was near where the parking lot tower burnt last week.

Also there is a parking lot behind Cirque that is pretty isolated.

This is such terrible news. Just reminds us that we have to be vigilant no matter where we are.
