          Weirdest monorail question ever

Ok, this is odd, but for my retirement job, I would love to be a monorail pilot. [I would have to make some suggestions for uniform changes first, but that is the easy part. The first is actually making it to retirement!]

Anyone know how to achieve this lofty goal? Is there a monorail license I should get now and accumulate hours on my local monorail simulator?

Should I just memorize all the facts you posted and practice answering them with a smile?

Are there any pilots on here, or any CMs who know what to do?

Serious [but with 20 years to go],
          20k

Everyday. If you watch every Disney planing video. they always have a shot somewhere with a monorail in it. The WDW monorail is reconised all over the world. It is more associeated with Disney then Mickey Mouse.

Even though I work at Walt Disney World, I never feel like I am actually at Walt Disney World until I see a monorail come by on my way to work. It's a good thing I work in a monorail based hotel. Passing under the World Drive Arch proclaiming Walt Disney World, passing by the Earful Tower or Dolphin Hotel does nothing to say I am at Disney. Even passing through the Magic Kingdom toll plaza doesn't do it. Just seeing a monorail gliding by on the track tells me I am finally at Disney World.

I know what you mean. My father retired from WDW and we always went in the back lot down 'Monorail Way' and it never really hit me that we were at Disney until we past the monorail shop.

                    Monorail Rider,
When your Dad worked at WDW, did he ever tell you what they would do with the retired vehicles? One day years ago, (after the new models came out, after very publicized fire) my brother and I found what for a lack of better words was the industrial dumping ground for the monorails. I will find the negs and post the images in a couple of days. When I first saw the cars I thought they were in storage, ala the mothballed jets in the Mojave or Phoenix. Only after I looked through my camera lens dis I realize what was going on. Was hard to imagine, especially now considering how auction valuable those vehicles might have been.

I miss the days of being able to park at CR, ride the monorail into the park, then easily walking back to my car at the end of the day. Beat the crowds going back by walking. Now they fenced in the entire parking lot, and you wind up walking real far at either the start or at the end, so now it is not as fun. But you can still park at GF guest parking lot (if the security eye/camera) opens the gate remotely for you. Yes it is a couple 100 yard walk, but it is fun to do with the kids now and then.

                    Mark

Here is a link to some pics from the monorail society.

BTW. does anyone know where I can get media photos and/or video of the fire?

I wonder why they kept 2 monorails in storage then take red and make it into chunks.. while selling only 2 to the las vegas oriinal line long time ago.... which have since been retired....

I pushed rails back in 1977. There were no computers (other than MAPO emergency stop). We left the station based on being able to see where the monorail ahead of you was located or seeing it enter or leave a station. We did the safety and station spiels live. At that time the doors opened like car doors so if you got a door open warning you would creep onto the platform with a railie standing at the edge of the platform to shut the door if it was really open (rather than ajar).

Not sure. I belive that Disney can make changes at any time, and mae it look like it was planned that way.

Wow, just saw my line about the monorail dumping ground used in this weeks MiceChat round-up, I promise to get the photo uploaded tonight. Since I sent the note on the 11th. I have been shooting almost non-stop, which is wonderful due to the fact that Kathy, my wife, is preg with our second child, and we always need the money. Hey, gotta buy those new shoes right? Unless I get a last minute shoot this afternoon or night, I will find and upload the images of the monorail resting place.

                                      Monorail Graveyard Photo Posted.

                                      Hello all,
I am working on hour 28 of non sleep. I spent the night proofing close to 2,700 images from an Arena Football Game (Orlando Predators) and still have close to 500 more to go.

I posted a 44k file of the monorail graveyard at WDW. It is here: http://tinyurl.com/3ue4a You can post links to the photo on other site, but please do not hijack/steal the image. Thanks.

Enjoy, and remember, Disney did not approve the image, and no, it is not for sale or licensing.

                                      Sincerely,
                                      Mark E. Lepow

^^ Is there just that one or am I missing something???

Also it's in B&W but says that if we buy the photo it's in color. but then it says,

"Please note: This photo is not public domain and therefor will be considered stolen if used on another website without the signed, written permission of Lepow Photo. This photo is not for sale to the general public, regardless that there is a price listed. Orders will not be filled. Obviously, this photo has not been approved by the Disney Co."

Can you maybe post them in photobucket.com so we can see it better?
