  • New Pre-Show for Laugh Floor

The Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor debuted a new pre-show today. It seems Disney is still tweaking this show to find the perfect equilibrium for the guests. While I haven't seen the show yet, I've heard this show has greatly improved since opening day because Disney Imagineering is keen on perfection.

TomorrowlandTyler over at WDWMagic writes in to say (WARNING: Spoiler Below),
    Spoiler
The new pre-show begins by featuring Roz telling all the humans to move all the way down to the doors. Next the MC - Monster of Ceremonies, Mike Wazowski is introduced. Mike welcomes all the humans to the Laugh Floor and then plays a movie clip. Its the second half of the original pre-show film. When that is finished, Roz comes on again and tells Mike that she prepared a montage of clips of Mike's "best work" from the show. Mike says thats great and asks her to play it. It plays and turns out to be clips of all of Mike's bloopers. Mike slipping on a banana, falling out of his door, having a safe dropped on his head, falling through the trap door, etc. Mike then asks Roz "I though you said it was of my Best work." Roz responds by asking "Did I hurt your feelings Wazowski?" She then proceeds to play the clips again, and after each blooper asks "Was it this part that hurt your feelings?, How about this part?, O that had to hurt! (when the safe falls on his head). Mike pleads with Roz to stop and tells the humans that the doors will open in 5 minutes. Then, intermittently, comedic intercom pages are made by Celia, (Mike's girlfriend, the purple one with snakes for hair...If you don't remember her, go watch the movie). They are different each pre-show. I saw it 3 times and they were different each time. An example was "James P. Sullivan will be out of the office this week, but be careful, Roz is watching...Always watching." Then a clip is played introducing the CDA. (In the movie the CDA was the Child Detection Agency, the people in the yellow suits,...once again if you don't remember, go watch the movie!) Here, the CDA has been renamed the Comedy Detection Agency. Once this portion is finished, its time for the humans to proceed into the Laugh Floor itself.
I probably left out a part, but its been almost 12 hours since I saw it this morning.

I think that's pretty detailed for being 12 hours since having seen it. I can't wait to see the show!

I can't believe they're still spending money on trying to fix this thing...

Well, after spending all of the money they did to build the show in the first place, all of that money would be wasted if they don't get it up to par with guest standards. That's what I like about Disney. They don't settle for average, always going the extra mile (or at least most of the time they are).

I don't know if I would say that Disney spent "all that money." Yes, they did spend money, but the amount is significantly less than most new attractions. The show used a recycled show building, recycled technology from Turtle Talk, and limited spending on theming. Frankly, the whole concept of a laugh floor, is weak for a Tomorrowland attraction. I am sorry that they did not put this in Disney Hollywood Studios and build a whole monster's world to experience. That would have really been Disney quality. This is just a lame show. Period. A new slighting more interesting pre-show will not revive this dead dog.

Hmm... considering I have yet to experience this attraction I'm not sure what to say. Thanks for the update information.

actually guest reviews have been much better lately. I've known a few people who have seen this lately and they've all been much more impressed than they originally were.

I quite like this attraction. It was not spectacular or dazzling, but a lot of fun. I fault it only for bad placement. The tomorrowland placement makes it hard to initially get into this story. Glad to hear they are still adding to it.

In my honest opinion, this is an awesome attraction. The recent additions of the new banners and enhanced pre-show have just added to this show for me. A few more surprises may be coming to this attraction soon......

Well, I think we can all agree replacing Alien Encounter with Stitch was a mistake, and I hope Disney realizes that. But apparently they didn't learn their lesson from Journey Into Imagination ... don't attempt to fix what isn't broken.

The only reason Alien Encounter is gone was kids got to scared. So Disney does what it does best with little kids. A lot of us here on MiceChat are adults or teens, but when you have a child with you they really like the show. Stitch just happens to be one of those rides made for kids that adults can ride with them.

I can see the samething going on over at the Laugh Floor.

Quite frankly, Stitch still scares kids because of the darkness. Sitting in the dark, tied to a chair, waiting for a creature to do things to you isn't a concept that is "made for kids." They would have been better off leaving Alien Encounter as it was. They tried to make it kid-friendly and now even fewer people are happy with it.

Alien Encounter scared the bejebus out of me, but I'd rather have it still there than Stitch's Great IQ Lowerer. I refuse to see it and I refuse to see Laugh Floor too.

I love the lAUGH FLOOR have seen it five times and each time something was different. i give the cms cudo's for trying to keep it fresh so people will want to go see it again. I never went on alien encounter because I am a big chicken, I went on stitch once and wasn't really impressed. I don't think alien encounter should be back but I think there are other things you can do with that space that would still fit the tommorrowland theme. as far as stitch goes... I have a great idea for an attraction to replace the thoughtful spot in fantasyland and stitch would fit perfectly.

The Laugh Floor is amusing, a good diversion on a hot day. It really depends on who the comedians are in the background as to how good the show is. I've been to 3 showings, one which was so funny I hurt laughing, and one that was barely mildly amusing.

I actually worked on Laugh Floor... and I was very skeptical about the quality of the show in the beginning. My complaints while working on it were:

                                      1. It needs recognizeable characters from the film.
                                      2. Get rid of Mike's song routine. (Mike used to do a song before the show)
                                      3. Any lines that happen in every show, needed specific facial animation rather than allowing the voice recognition do it.
                                      4. It needs to be funnier.

They have done quite a lot to improve it. I visited the parks in September and was very happy to see the changes. It is much funnier than the initial scripts. Mike's song is gone, and they added custom facial animation to scripted lines. With the new banners and a new (hopefully better) pre-show, I am sure this an even stronger attraction.

The only thing I would change about it at this point, is add more monsters from the film.

I can't wait to visit it again!
If at first you don't succeed... skydiving isn't for you!
