Well I'm sure these mugs will come in pretty handy while I'm down here, seeing that we got a whole nother YOAMD in the works.

Yes, I know you are all excited about that...)

I find the refillable part very useful

For me, if you bought it in the time where they were "good forever", then that is fine. The new mugs are supposed to be a one-trip use (I don't personally care, but that is my take on it).

But there are a lot of people who use any old mug, not even necessarily a Disney one that was ever paid for. Disney couldn't care less at this point, or they would make it tougher to use non-Disney or non-previous trip mugs.

This is the crux of the discussion that's been sometimes very volitile over the years. Some folks, like Spirit, got a mug years back when it said you could use it anywhere till the end of time. But then Disney changed their official policy, and now according to the rules you're somewhat limited. So there are two questions here - Is anyone going to bust you for using your mug from last year's trip? Almost definitely not. Are you breaking the rules by doing so? Absolutely. So it's something of a personal choice. I've always put it on par with the decision to drive 60 in a 55. Yeah, we all do it, and no one is really hurt, so what's the big deal? But if someone were to come along and bust you on the letter of the law, well then yes, we're doing wrong.

Which is why they don't do the Half Yards at the Rose & Crown anymore.

It's not to save money either. Guests do bring them back and refill, to save themselves a dollar. But guests don't clean them properly and have gotten sick from drinking from a year old dirty half yard.

So they then moan to Disney about it. If something you like has gotten stopped, chances are it's something to do with a guest.

It is amazingly short-sighted. They save a few cents (or whatever it is) on the mugs by having them all uniform. Yet why would anyone want to collect them? I know a lot of people who have 3, 4, 5 or more mugs because the mugs remind them of that resort stay.

Now they do. For years, the CM's would say to bring back the resort mugs for free future refills. I'm curious as to why Disney would make it even easier to take soda anywhere, though people fill up pretty much anything at the fountains (even if they've never bought a mug).

At Port Orleans French Quarters, the soda fountains are separate from the ordering and paying for the food so nobody is really monitoring it either.

I have never used the couple of mugs I do have enough to make them worth the cost in beverages, though I like the mugs themselves. It is a shame they have all the same design now, I LIKED that they were unique souvenirs from the resorts.

we take our epcot mugs every time we go and fill them up at the electric umbrella. no one ever says anything. actually a favorite for my kids is to fill the mugs with icees at the contemporary.

I am so disappointed they are using the YOMD mug at all the resorts. I have a mug from almost every resort. It has been my standard souvenier for a few years. I am not one to buy t-shirts and plush every time I go to WDW because I go often, but the mugs were a nice way to remember each resort. I hope they bring back the resort specific mugs after YOMD is done with. And to answer the original question, I always bring my mugs back with me and have seen many others doing the same on recent visits. They stand out more now since the use of the boring YOMD mugs but nobody stops anyone from filling them.

You absolutely can use your mug all over. They went to a standardized design because its cheaper (of course) and so many people (like myself) are returning with old mugs because we were told when we purchased them that we could, that there really is no policy.

You'll likely hear from some anal folks here that you're stealing soda ... you aren't. If you pay your $13.99 or whatever they cost now at Port Orleans, it matters not if you use it at Pop Century.

I haven't bought one with the YOAMD logo on but i bought one several years ago from All Star Music when they all had the name of the Resort on that you bought them at and i used to see people with mugs from other Resorts there using them all the time and nobody said anything to any of them that i saw.
If they are all the same now i'm guessing that you can use them anywhere, i am going to buy one when i go next month as they do save a lot of money in drinks.
