  • "You're going to Disney again?"

I would like to hear your answer to the question many of us seem to get..."You're going to Disney again?" And if you have a story to go along with it that would be great as well.

For me it is just the overall atmosphere, when you drive underneath the archway I somehow "feel" refreshed and relaxed. I get this feeling of being in a safe environment where I can act like a kid again, with no worries.

Re: "You're going to Disney again?"

This is one of those issues that people who aren't always "Going to Disney again" will never understand.

For years, every Monday I'd get back to work and someone would ask "What did you do this weekend?" I'd always have the same answer "Went to Disney". Eventually, people started asking condescendingly, "Did you go to Disney again this weekend?" I got so tired of their attitudes that I started telling them what I did in different ways "I went to a Park", "I visited a local attraction", "Went to California Adventure", "Went sailing" - Rather than just saying Disney. But after a while they figured out that all I ever do is visit theme parks.

Everyone has their thing. Mine just happens to help Walt pay off his huge California Adventure mortgage.

Re: "You're going to Disney again?"

It actually took a few years for Belle's family and my Mom to accept that we were "park people". But once we just explained to them that some people's things are the movies, some people it's the beach, ours is Disney.

What is so wrong with that?

I work at Barnes and Noble and whenever anyone wants a guide book on Disney or a book on Walt, they call me in. They know of my Disney habit and think it's cute. Our families have finally gotten use to it. Every Christmas we send a recent picture of us at one of the Disney parks, since we usually go around November.

Only one person has every critizied me going to Disney all the time. She couldn't understand why I would want to spend my vacation in fantasyland. Where am I suppose to spend it? In the slums? My fixation is a harmless one. There are worse ones out there by far. Some people just don't get it and I feel bad for them.

My friend who came here for that insane 2 nights 1 1/2 days excursion a few weeks ago will be returning mid December for a longer trip (5 nights 4 days). the room's already been booked and all. I wonder if other people think he's crazy. He must be making good money as a teacher right now (especially since it's his first semester of teaching ever) to be able to afford such a big trip. Since the first trip was too insane and too stressful, I'm gonna make this his official "1st trip" and get the pin for him to along with it!

I don't respond. I also love to go to Paris, and people will say "Paris again"? I love the city, I love France, I love Europe in general. I don't feel a need to explain that to anyone. I am very fortunate that I live so close to WDW, since I'm not sure I could choose Disney often over Europe for a longer vacation. I don't tell people what to do or what not to do as far as vacations, it's their time and money.

I like to respond with "Because I can." It's sort of snotty in a way, but it usually strikes the deeper issue of envy within the inquirer.

Not to mention the nearby, and amazing Disneyland Paris.

I don't like to be smarmy to people usually. And I do think it's a matter of jealousy most of the time, but I don't know why. Most anyone who asks can afford to do the same things if they want, they just do other things. I think sometimes it's the fact that I don't have kids and can be more free with my spare time. (though I would have loved to have kids).

As far as Disneyland Paris - I go less and less each time I am there. The trip before last, we didn't go at all. I did go this past May, but I really find it hard to tear myself away from the city itself. The main park is GORGEOUS, the prettiest of any Magic Kingdoms that I've been to. But the city has so much history and romance to it. (sigh).

Re: "You're going to Disney again?"

"... actually, that last time was DisneyLAND, in California. This time I'm going to Disney WORLD, which is in Florida." Or vice versa, is the way my conversation at work usually goes. MOST East Coasters have no idea what Disneyland is. *le sigh* Pictures from our last trip received a, "I didn't know Disneyland had a Tower of Terror!" comment. JEEZ.
It's actually "Cars Land", not "Carsland".

everytime i plan a trip somewhere it seems to be to Walt Disney World, only did Disneyland once but plan to go again soon, and when people give me the same ol' "Disney World... Again?" I just say that I have more fun at the parks than taking some boring trip to some hotel on some beach.

I tell them I feel safe at WDW and I feel comfortable there and that I'm just not in the state of mind or mood to visit a new city because in the back of my mind I just be wishin I was at WDW or a Disney theme park.

I received the same condescending question all summer because I went to Hersheypark about 4 times a week. What part of SEASON PASS don't they understand?! Why would I buy it not to use it? And the same thing will happen now that the Christmas event is getting underway... "What did you do last night?" "Went to Hersheypark, of course!" "AGAIN?! It was so cold!" "They have HEATED BUILDINGS and I OWN A COAT."
If I lived in or around the Disneyland area, the front gate employees would know me BY NAME, because I would work there, or I would get every cent from my annual pass.

I guess I am lucky , we only associate with Disneyland people.... well I do have one set of friends that even though they have been to DL numerous times over the years and had aps for a year , still dont get it, even though when their kids were little it was where they headed every vacation and I remember one time when my girlfriend just came home from work , threw clothes and hubby and kids in the car and headed south to Disneyland. Maybe they have just grown up too much for DL. I will never grow up!

I've been asked this question several times before, and my response is always, "There's no where else I'd rather visit." It's just that simple.

Sometimes they'll follow it up with a, "But wouldn't you rather go..." and I can hault the rest of the question with a simple, "No."

It doesn't mean that they get it. In fact, they don't. It's OK though. It's their loss that they don't understand the magic of the Disney Resorts.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only Hershey Park Season Pass holder on Micechat! My response to those people is "What part of free chocolate do you not understand?" Besides where else can you go on an attraction that has BOTH singing cows AND free chocolate? For its small size they pack a lot more attractions than most parks out there...

With Disney its different since we only make it down once a year or so, but basically everyone I work with knows it and since most of us are all engineers I get away with the tech angles on the new rides and attraction technology. Most everyone just accepts it after I explain my wife and I honeymooned there and it holds a special place in our hearts. And yes I wind up helping friends, coworkers and family plan thier trips so often now my wife is becoming a travel agent.

The responses I get vary depending on the family member in question.

My mother: "Have a good time sweetie."
My honey: "Don't spend to much!"
My daughter: "Can we visit Ariel?"
My coworkers: "Let me guess where you'll be this weekend." Followed by questions regarding WDW because they are either going or helping another family member plan a trip, which usually leads me to recommending this site for help.

Whenever I hear that question from friends, it's usually in an envious, or enthusiastic manner rather than sarcastic, or condescending.
"You're going to Disney World? Awesome! Wish I could go..." or something along those lines.

Part of it could be because we don't get to WDW that often (about every other year) and part of it is because most people we know also go to Disney parks.

I don't go all that often, but often enough for people to ask me that. My response is that every time I go, I see something new, and with WDW, it's true because they are always changing SOMETHING in the resort. Last time, I saw the new film in Canada. The time before that was "Monsters Inc Laugh Factory." Then every once in a while, I visit Disneyland in California, and there's usually something new there as well.

Some people just don't get it - but we do!

I get this a lot also from my co-workers and in my line of business you figure it wouldn't as big of a deal. Everyone I work with loves the parks, so that isn't the issue - it's the fact that I go quite often even though I live in Minnesota. Part of me doesn't want to grow up, and another part of me just wants to use my resources and have fun while I'm still young and can.

And it's NEVER the same. Each trip to Disney that I have taken in 2007 I have experienced new and different things and I still have more that is 'waiting to be discovered.' (My first Flower & Garden Festival, Finding Nemo the Musical, Grand Fiesta Tour, first time to Jellyrolls, last ride on Spaceship Earth, new Safari spiel/show, first Pirate & Princess Party, Dream Along with Mickey, updated Haunted Mansion, first ride in Wheelhouse, first Food & Wine Festival being 21... plus Finding Nemo Sub Voyage at DLR and others there too, just to name a few.)
