On another Disney fan site, someone going to Disney & Universal with teens for 9 nights (if I remember correctly) asked for tips. Here is what I wrote off the top of my head, and I'd be curious to read you favorite suggestions, and/or links to your favorite Micechat threads that have already covered this.

My Top Ten Tips to someone going to WDW & Universal Orlando with two teens:

    1. I'm with those suggesting you stay at a Universal Resort that gives you Express Passes. We loved the Royal Pacific. You can get the passes the day you check in (I'd make sure they're available before your trip), & check out so you could visit for three days with only 2 nights at the U. hotel. Given the length of your trip, I'd spend your last three nights at Universal.

    2. The Unofficial Guide to Universal Orlando suggests going to Universal after Disney if you have teens, because they'll probably like it more & Disney might be a little bit of a letdown if you visit Universal first.

    3. Each of you should plan what you want to do most before you go and all of you should realize that any attraction might be closed when you visit, and you will NOT do everything.

    4. The most fun we had at WDW during our last visit was renting the little speed boats on Bay Lake.

    5. Bring snacks into the Disney parks to save money & be healthier. You can have groceries delivered to your Disney hotel.

    6. Spend a couple of hours apart each day so you don't drive each other nuts. (People who travel with me would probably have made this the first tip.)

    7. Check out the Disney menus before you go, especially for their prices. (AllEars.net has the menus.)

    8. A Disney expert, AJ at Disney Food Blog, said that "The only thing consistent about Disney World restaurants is their inconsistency." Her favorite restaurant is Yak & Yeti, which has an amazing menu, but was the most disappointing & overpriced meal on our last trip.

    9. Take the time to take in live musicians. An African band in the Animal Kingdom with that park's excellent theming made me feel like we were on an interesting & beautiful holiday.

    10. Take the time to explore either the Animal Kingdom Lodge (eat at Sanaa--now open! The bread service is excellent & maybe get there before it opens at lunch and request a window seat) and/or The Wilderness Lodge resorts. In my opinion, these two resorts showcase Disney theming at its best!

Wow. #8. I would not trust a Food Blog that mentions Yak and Yeti anywhere in the top 30 restaurants on WDW property.

Here's a link to an article on the excellent AllEars.net:
Dining at Walt Disney World can be an exciting experience, but for a variety of reasons, you may find that you prefer to carry in your own food and drinks — whether that mean snacks, meals, beverages, or all three. Guests may choose to carry in for a number of reasons, the most common of … Continue reading "Bringing Food Into the Parks of Walt Disney World"

"4. The most fun we had at WDW during our last visit was renting the little speed boats on Bay Lake."

            This, this, and this.

Have done this on each of the past three trips I've been on (one of which I actually paid to do a second day in a row - and they gave me a discount on the second day ).

This is seriously the most relaxing and satisfying thing to do at WDW. I'll never not do this on future trips.
Word of advice - make sure you're able to rent from Bay Lake or Sevens Seas Lagoon (I prefer the launch from Contemporary myself). From these locations, you have a lot more exploration opportunity. Rent from Yacht and Beach Club, and you only have that little bay in between YaBC and Boardwalk.
"The old man's gonna knock on the sky. Listen to the sound."

            AP'er since 2004. Yup.....I'm one of THEM.

I LOVE the Disneyland Resort, but it's not easy for me to argue that it's better than WDW better when I think of these WDW boats,
and if I think of the AK,
                the AKL,
                EPCOT's World Showcase,
the MK (especially the castle, Tomorrowland, and Liberty Square), the WL
and a dozen other places in WDW.

At Disneyland I'm a big fan of the two parks and the Grand Californian lobby with Napa Rose, and that's a LOT,
                but that's it.
