    according to wdwnews.com
IDOL "GOING TO DISNEY WORLD" -- Walt Disney World Resort has announced plans to create a high-energy "American Idol" attraction bringing the pop culture phenomenon to Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park. Each eligible "Grand Finale" park guest who wins the daily competition will qualify for a guaranteed slot for regional auditions for the "American Idol" TV show. The attraction is scheduled to open in late 2008.

guess we now know for sure what is going into the old abc theater.

Yeah - it seems odd to me, considering that Idol is on a different network than Disney (not as big a deal) and the ratings are sliding. It's sort of nice to catch the star rising than falling! I think Millionaire was a fantastic show at the Studios, I wish it was still there.

        High-res concept art here:

I'm up for anything that fills in a previously unoccupied space, even if it is American Idol!

While the concept seems a little eisner-esque (not a good thing). My main problem is that the architecture of the building (according to concept art) looks WAY too modern. I don't understand why they can't/couldn't keep the nice art deco style they've got going. The art shows a building which seems way too gaudy and tacky (like the 2000 additions to Future World) devoid of any art deco/1940's influence like the buildings around it. It also looks like they're going to remove that nice little courtyard in front of the building. For once, I hope they tone down the alterations.

On the concept side, I can't believe they created a show about a show on a competitor network! Plus, they chose a show which has already peaked, how many more years are left on this thing? I like to watch the show from time to time but, the ratings are continually falling. The show might be amusing but, it's guranteed to have a short life-span. Why couldn't a new-age Superstar Televison featuring shows from ESPN, ABC, ABC Family, & Disney Channel be made? That a much better fit and uses properties that Disney owns.

You'd never catch me trying to sing in public, but if others enjoy this, so be it.

I am skeptical in that I think the talent on display will be dubious at best.

The idea would possibly work but you are gonna have some goof-offs going in there and acting stupid just like on the tv show!

Can we get some West Cost love? Or would that be redundant since LA is so close to Anaheim? Well, I say why not for the west coasters. Either way, it sounds cool and it will always be on my short list of things to do when in Florida!

                          Re: idol coming to studios

after reading the whole release, sounds a bit like fear factor live. I liked millionaire as well however I heard that the show had been sold and disney's license wasnt renewed so they couldnt do it anymore. I think audiences liked the " participation" type shows so they came up with this one. many many years ago when ed mcmahon had his star search show, they did them the last couple of seasons from the abc theater and audience members got to vote on the performers. my concern is the " grand prize" a chance to audition for producers of the real american idol??? not my idea of a 1st prize I guess.l oh you have to fit the criteria for auditioning though so if you are older than 29 forget it. I think i would sign up to audition for the fun of it. but frankly I would rather be a judge..... I could give simon a run for his money

I don't know why the sad face over this attraction!

This is an attraction where people get to get involved with Showbiz, inside a theme park that is about Showbiz!

It is a perfect fit! It is a worldwide brand, one that not 100% of the population enjoys but still at least 35 million people a week enjoy it, tens of thousands of people audition for it!

And I think that hundreds of thousands of people visiting a 'Studio' will want to see behind the scenes on a 'TV' show!

That being said HURRAY! The studios is being true to itself!
