Where is MGM?

Ok just went on the disney website recently and noticed that there is no MGM studios anymore...it is now called Disney Hollywood Studios! Does anyone know why? I miss my MGM part of my WDW memories. lol I know it is just a name but seriously anyone here have any info on this?

as far as I know Disney has decided that they wanted to expand the reach of MGM. Instead of it solely looking back on "classic Hollywood"...they wanted it to incorporate Music, Movies, Theater, and Tv shows. To go along with the change, MGM's name has been changed.



I only hope they don't change the buildings. Being a huge fan of Art Deco...that would make me sad.

In a nutshell, the name changed because the deal with MGM ended.

MGM has now merged with 20th Century Fox which may be part of the reason the contract was not extended.

Contracts ended between Disney and MGM. Unfortunately this means the name is no more.

What every one else said. To me, I still catch myself calling it MGM. probably will for awhile. Just like I still call it the Wedway People Mover

Persomally I would have preferred Disney-MJMcB studios, but they went in a different direction

I think it will be called MGM for many moons to come. It's really hard to change an established name and MGM is has become so "Disney"...

There are at least two MGMs that I know of... the resort/casinos in Detroit and Vegas. I do not care much for the new name but will go with the flow and call is DHS. Personally, I think it would have been a better name to call it Walt Disney Studios FL.

I would have preferred The Walt Disney Studios Florida as well, but do they actually MAKE anything in the park anymore? I know back in the day they filmed shows, made movies, etc... in the park. But, now it seems like all the soundstages are attractions and I never hear about anything filming there (besides ESPN week and the cheerleading things). It just seems like a glorified theme park now and no longer a functioning "studios". When they closed the animation division, I was devastated.

My girlfriend was a bit upset as well. She's studying animation and loves Florida. Also, Nickelodean moved their animation studios out west as well. Looks like we'll be heading out to L.A. in a couple years. Hooray for pollution.

Hey, I love CA. I would not mind living out there, but the cost of housing in that area is simply out of my reach.

yeah, but that sounds a little like Universal Studios Florida. I can see why they wouldn't name it that.

True. But it would have been in line with the "Walt Disney Studios Paris" name.. Also, is it me or does the "Universal Orlando" name for their resort sounds... tacky?

CA is awesome, but I am looking forward to living in Fla, (eventually!)
