    Re: Fastpass

I agree that the fast pass system is broken, however, the whole point to my question was late within reason, within a few minutes. I'll be a first timer to WDW, and as a first timer, I am very unfamiliar with the parks and i am concerned about travel time.

You have just earned my respect. I wish the other 98.2% of those using Faspass didn't abuse it like they do. Better yet. I wish Disney was more vigilant about illegal use of FPs all over property, since they are not willing to pull the plug on this "virus" affecting the Disney parks worldwide.

    Re: Fastpass

^ Exactly. I claim Fastpass negatively increases the park's attendance "virtually" by allowing people to "ride" more than one thing at the same time. So, if 30,000 people are in the park, there are virtually 40-50,000 people riding rides. So, the wait times for all the attractions gets longer. It's a negative side affect to a system that "appears" to be saving everyone time.

I guess it goes hand in hand with the theme park though. It's all about an illusion to the guest.

What you're seeing is actually a negative effect of FastPass. In the 90s the quaint Fantasyland dark rides were a short wait. We'd ride Alice in Wonderland several times in an hour if we wanted to.

Problem is, since FastPass was added to all the high-capacity rides (aside from Matterhorn which isn't high enough capacity, and Mansion where the capacity is so high that FP is reduandant.) All the people who get FP for these big rides then go kill time by riding rides that don't have FP.

So basically you can only ride Alice once an hour now because the line is filled with people who, twenty years ago, would have been waiting in the line for Big Thunder or Pirates instead.

TDLFAN, I agree with most of your post but not the above portion. I really like the fact that we have a choice and to me the more options the better. Right now everyone is treated the same, charging for FastPasses would be treating people differently.

The only things I do not like about FP is the way people hang out at the return entrance waiting for their time. What is the point of having the FP if you are just going to wait at the return for 10-15 minutes? At least sit down on a nearby bench and soak up the Disney (or buy something, that's what FP were invented for anyways, lol).

Space Junk, how would we, the fans, go about trying to influence Disney policies like these?

I would say that getting rid of the fastpass system would be a giant step backward; the key is to enforce the existing system. Also, not everyone knows that you can use an expired pass, so don't tell everyone you know about it. There will be some sanity and control in the system as long as not everyone is trying to beat the system.

Finally, to those idiot managers concerned about guest relations -- how about worrying about maintaining good relations with all those people behind the line jumpers and behind the FastPass abusers, rather than with the one loudmouth who is marring everyone else's good time?

The only time I've used a later fastpass is when I went to Animal Kingdom at about 8:30am, went back to the hotel & accidentally overslept and didn't get back until about 2pm. But that's the only time I've ever used one after the time window, I try to stick to it & get my family & friends too as well.

ohhh yeah. i understand guest service very well, but kissing their butt just because they dont want to play by the rules is a load of crap. Im always going to tell someone to leave if they dont have a fastpass or have an early one, buuuut they will always pull some excuse and demand a manager. At this point they know theyve won because these are the people that pull this crap at every attraction. game over for me. i do feel bad for the standy line and i always let as many in as possible without getting yelled at. At Space Mt, we have no ratio anymore - can anyone guess why this is?? Because we are constantly innodated with old, early, and non-valid fastpasses because of the standard we've foolishly set for ourselves. I personally do my best to discourage this fastpass mess, but i can only do so much...

now if only we could get rid of people who falsely use wheelchairs to get into rides faster.....:shy:

I agree with the above posts that Fastpass time s need to be enforced. If you are not going to enforce it, then why bother having it. Use the money on better rides.

People have that sense of entitlement because America fosters it. It's hard for me to even think of a place that doesn't offer preferential treatment to people and allow them to "bypass the line". Checking in at the airport, security at the airport, getting on the plane, rental car lines, HOV lanes on the highway, FastPass, FlashPass, VIP, etc... The more that happens, the less people ever want to wait in line.

I agree with all the above posters. The system sucks because CM's will not stick to their guns. I worked Guest Services and it was always if the yell loud, give them what they want. Stupid way of doing things. They have a time span for a reason, use it or why bother. And anyone who cuts in line should be sent to the back of the line, no questions asked. I don't know what makes some people feel they are better than everyone else who is patiently waiting their turn, but they should certainly not be tolerated. I could tell you stories that would make you hair curl.....

When people start skipping the time window and showing up whenever they feel like it, coupled with CMs who have no guts to tell guests they are late and can't use the FP anymore, it creates backups for those in the stand by line later in the day. And since CM create further backups by not sticking to a pre-determined number of FP users versus the stand-by line users, it makes the problem worst. This is not fair for the majority of guests who chose to not use FP because of the time window, or those who didn't get a FP because they ran out. i totally agree....but in my case it not being gutless....people will just get to ride anyways once management comes to "save the day"

i have had people actually cut the line in front of me and still have management let them ride after i call them. Then i get lectured about being nicer about guest service. finally, i get yelled at by the guests after management leaves for letting this happen!!! excuse me?? did i not just try to stop them from cutting?? go yell at my stupid manager!!

i agree that the time window is for flow control, but too many stupid people arguing with management leads to acceptance of allowing late fastpass....why not just allow early ones too?!?!?!? one of the many reasons that the parks are all messed up!!

    ARGH!

I don't know how you were able to do that. Everytime I've used Fast Pass they take the pass when I go through!! I have never known them to stop anyone who is late for the appointed time, then they will usually let you through, unless you get the Cast Member who is having a bad day...then your out of luck.
