The preshow footage was the same, and the ride was based on the Dinosaur characters. Nothing was added or changed in the ride. In fact, many special effects do not work as originally planned, and Disney does not care to fix them. The name change was Disney's way to capitalize on the release of the movie, and since that movie was a flop, they should have changed the name back to the original "Countdown".

I could swear that the height restriction changed. CTX was definitely much darker than Dinosaur and jostled you around way more.

The name Countdown to Extinction is much better than the name Dinosaur. They should change the name back to Countdown to Extinction IMO. The name Dinosaur is bland and is something a 5 year old could come up with, but Countdown to Extinction actually has some imagination behind it. Not many people remember the movie Dinosaur anyway, so it's not like people are riding it because of the movie.

The height restriction did change, I don't know about the actual ride.

I figured that a change in height restriction indicated a change in the actual ride experience (track, lighting).

The one part of the ride that I clearly remember being more intense at CTX is when you go through the "time portal" (or whatever it's called). It used to bother my neck and you'd have to hold on to the handrails not to bump around all over the place! The first time my Mom and I rode the ride as "Dinosaur", we were so disappointed by the way it had been toned down!

              that'd make since to me

especially since nobody is referencing the fact that at least if I'm remembering correctly there arn't T-rex's chasing you there are Carnitors or whatever from the movie

I hate to disagree, but that clip of Aladar in the pre-show is definitely not original to the attraction.
