    Countdown to Extinction/Dinosaur

While Dinosaur is one of my favorite attractions in WDW, I never got to experience Countdown to Extinction and I have some questions for people who have been on Countdown To Extinction and Dinosaur.

-What was the difference between the 2 attractions (excluding the name)?
-When did Disney change the attraction?
-Why (if there are any known reasons) did Disney change it?
    -Which one was better?

I hate to disagree, but that clip of Aladar in the pre-show is definitely not original to the attraction.

    that'd make since to me

especially since nobody is referencing the fact that at least if I'm remembering correctly there arn't T-rex's chasing you there are Carnitors or whatever from the movie

I figured that a change in height restriction indicated a change in the actual ride experience (track, lighting).

The one part of the ride that I clearly remember being more intense at CTX is when you go through the "time portal" (or whatever it's called). It used to bother my neck and you'd have to hold on to the handrails not to bump around all over the place! The first time my Mom and I rode the ride as "Dinosaur", we were so disappointed by the way it had been toned down!

The name Countdown to Extinction is much better than the name Dinosaur. They should change the name back to Countdown to Extinction IMO. The name Dinosaur is bland and is something a 5 year old could come up with, but Countdown to Extinction actually has some imagination behind it. Not many people remember the movie Dinosaur anyway, so it's not like people are riding it because of the movie.

    - Obviously the name changed as well as the signage.
    - They changed the dinosaur statue in front of the attraction building to one that looked like Aladar from the movie.
    - They added planters around the Aladar statue since parents allowed their children to "bathe" in the reflecting pool.
    - They (poorly) added the Aladar clip to the pre-show.
    - This may have been added before the name change, but they added the whole, "You're the only ones going on this special mission, so don't tell anyone" bit at the end of the pre-show. That was not part of the original attraction.
    - Again, I don't know if this was just a change or related to the "re-theme", but the overall ride has been toned down a bit - or at least seems so. I remember the original being MUCH darker. Also, some effects (like the "flying" dinosaurs that used to fly over the ride vehicle) have stopped working. Those (three I think) dinos are still there, but they're stationary now. They grabbed my attention the first couple of times I rode, so I'm not sure why they stopped working. Maybe the wire they "fly" on is too visible now that the ambient lighting in the ride has gone up?

Regardless, I still love the ride. I do miss CTX, but everything in the parks needs to be tied to a movie now.

This change happened during Countdown to Extinction's days but apparently one online member remembered it at least... before they added the final dinosaur leaping out at you at the end you had a clear view of the flash from the meteor striking overhead with a neat starfield right as you jumped back to the present time. It's still there somewhat but heavily obscured because of the roaring dinosaur and his strobe lights.

They made some changes to the pre show to tie in with the Dinosaur movie, the ride experience did not change. Your not alone not many people remember the Disney Dinosaur movie or make the connection that your rescuing Alodar or one of his friends from extinction.
