Re: All Aboard Florida Gets Land To Complete Miami-Orlando Rail Link

I would enjoy seeing Miami and DisneyWorld on the same vacation without having to fly or rent a car. I hope this turns out to be successful.

I think this is a great idea. I am sad that it isn't the public/private deal that was going to happen, but I think Florida needs High Speed Rail, and this will be the ticket!

It'd be nice to see this actually happen, especially if it proves to be financially lucrative.

This looks like it is not genuine high speed rail like the recent Tampa-Orlando proposal, but higher speed conventional rail that will require less specialized equipment, and therefore cost less to purchase and operate. This is exactly the sort of technology which would have better suited Tampa-Orlando (if it wasn't a project intended just for its flash) as it would have increased the travel time by only about 5-10 minutes without the ridiculous costs.

I would be really happy to see this happen. I really wish it could happen in more places around our country. I'm over here still waiting for the California-Las Vegas rail to happen.

For a project this big, I don't know why it's going to little old Cocoa Beach. Unless it serves the Cruise Terminals in Canaveral that sound like a waste. There is a reason the FL Turnpike doesn't follow the coast, the population centers are in Orlando no the coast east of Orlando.

All of Disney's overseas parks have direct rail links: Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo and (soon) Shanghai.

If WDW and Disneyland Resort could get linked up, too, that would be great.

Remember or maybe you didn't hear, Disney was onboard for a Tampa to Orlando route with a WDW stop.

And in DLR, the ARTIC station is likely to get a connector to DLR.

Disney for years had always been against any sort of plans unless it essentially served only them and nobody else in the Orlando area. I think they realized the latest proposal would never work out (incredibly expensive equipment for a pittance of a time savings on a route that lacks volume) and they could gain political points for having a change of heart.

Yeah I really want all of the tourist bubbles to be connected....
                      Within Orlando... Disney/SeaWorld/Universal
and within Florida... Tampa (Gulf Coast Beaches)/ Orlando (theme parks) / Miami (world class nightlife and adult entertainment)

Don't forget Tampa has a theme park of its own... Busch Gardens (and a dang fine one at that).

Disney is against this project All Aboard Project. It was for the public train that went from Tampa to Orlando(MCO). It would of taken guests from the airport to WDW. This new project is a private company, not AMTRAK, that wants to connect the major population hubs in Florida which includes a train to Tampa in the second phase.

It would be nice for us, speaking as a vistor. An Orlando light rail would be great for that area. Problem is you would have Disney and Mears fighting it. Mears which operates the Disney Magic Express, and the shuttles from WDW to SW, and USO, doesn't want to be replaced. Disney doesn't want it to be easier to get to other parks.

That's why Disney was fine with the proposed high speed Tamp to Orlando rail. MCO, Convetion Center, WDW, also Lakewood and Tampa. In WDW would be a transit center, where you would board buses to the resorts.

Oh I agree, but there are different means to do so and the higher speed conventional rail makes far more sense than the true high speed rail. The density and traffic in Florida is just not yet anywhere near the levels where true high speed rail is a sound financial option, much less a profitable one as the state was promising.

Orlando is actually getting lightrail called Sunrail. They're building it in phases nowbut the track is basically going to parallel the existing CSX tracks from Sanford to somewhere south of Orlando. That's great news for us Orlando Residents as it'll take some traffic off I-4 and US Hwy 17-92.
