An interesting discussion with DL operations folks about the proposed Piratization of Tom Sawyer Island and the Nemoization of Submarine Voyage.
On Tom Sawyer Island: Based on current 55-person rafts, you can get a max of 1,100 guests over to the island per hour. Since the island closes at dusk, that's a max of 10,000 guests in a day.
On Nemo: The subs hold 40 people. With 8 subs operating 9am to midnight, that's a max of 18,000 guests in a day (assuming no maintenance issues on a brand new ride with never-before-seen-at-DL technology).
For comparison, POTC can hold up to 45,000 guests per summer day and HM 37,500.
What's the problem? Well, on a busy summer day--say one in 2007 during Disney's Nemo-themed ad blitz--Disneyland hosts 60,000 to 70,000 people.
It's an interesting read into the operations side of the DL world that I for one never think about.
