  • New monorails, tomorrowland.

    http://blueskydisney.blogspot.com/
the newest article talks about the new monorails and how they look retro

"They look really retro, don't you think? I bet they would look really nice gliding over a newly revamped Tomorrowland with it's "retro" theming near the beginning of the next decade."

so retro is the upcoming theme of tomorrowland? anyone have more info?

If so, I hope more than half the land is done, unlike at Magic Kindom.

Back when it was done in 1994, the Magic Kingdom's new Tomorrowland (the parts that were done) was very nice. "The future that never was" really should be the future of Tomorrowland. The problem is just doing it well this time around.

isn't a retro-tomorrowland a contradiction in terms? it would be a literal yesterland. i mean, i understand retro-futurist and i'm a fan of it, but we're supposed to be entering the world of tomorrow, not entering the world of yesterday's misconception of tomorrow. that huge contraption on top of that abandoned ride (the Observatron) looks cool and all despite its utter pointlessness, but it along with the Astro-Orbiter do not suggest tomorrow, they suggest Galileo. These, along with the Tomorrowland sign, look way too similar, way too yesterday.

Bronze does not suggest 'tomorrow'. It suggests the Bronze Age, a place thousands of years from now, but in the past, not the future.

Ironically, one of the newer additions that actually supported the notion of 'tomorrow' was recently removed. the VMK kiosk was a convergence between the real world and internet world. It was like a payphone in the Matrix. VMK is very representative of what 'Tomorrow' will be like, what with people living out experiences they can't have in real life - online. Console gaming, the "Honey, I Shrunk" franchise, Pizza, driving a car, making your own Potato Head and rolling a wet ball aren't my idea of 'tomorrow'.

Maybe rolling the ball is a bleak metaphor for Tomorrow(land), always moving but never making any progress, like foolish Sisyphus.

Ewww, I hope that's not true!

Not only well said, but true. The idea of "Tomorrow Land" was the future when the park first opened. I don't get the retro-future monorails either. If the newer models of the monorails are done in the retro style, then they should rename the themed area "Tomorrow Land Revisited". This is my opinion.
