  • Matt Ouimet No Longer at Starwood Hotels

After reading some threads and posts that are critical of current and past Disney executives (including Al's latest update), I Googled former DLR President Matt Ouimet to see if there was any news about his work at Starwood Hotels. To my surprise, I found out he was replaced as President of the Starwood Hotel Group just over a month ago [Starwood press release here].

If I'm reading the corporate verbiage correctly, it seems like he was let go and did not depart on his own volition. Has anyone heard any details? It's very unfortunate, but Matt joins former executives Pressler and Harris as having a difficult time in their immediate post-Disney careers.

Would there be any chance for him to return in some capacity at Disney? It would seem unlikely with Rasulo still in charge of Parks and Resorts, but we can all hope, right?

That would be so perfect... but somehow, I don't see it happening.

Man, I can't find anything on this.

He was informed on Aug 29, 2008 that he was being terminated immediately and his last day was Aug 31, 2008. (Talk about quick).

I found the filling with the SEC: News Release by STARWOOD HOTEL & RESORTS WORLDWIDE INC on 2008-09-05 - www.implu.com

This is the only reasoning behind it that ANYONE mentions: Starwood Hotel Group Names New President

I'm guessing, as have others on other boards that there were disagreements between him and the board and they simply asked him to leave.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

My guess is that during this latest economic downturn, Starwood Hotels put in a disappointing showing during it's last few quarters, and the man in charge is the one who gets the blame. Just a guess though.
