  • GOOD FOOD in the corner of ORANGE COUNTY?

I recently moved from Los Angeles to Orange County (Cypress to be exact) and found it hard to find good places to eat. Sure, there's an Olive Garden right by new house which I'm greatful for but I'm on the hunt for new, tastey places to eat, regardless of what kind of food it is. Anyone have any suggestions without getting too far away from Cypress?

*Angelos & Vinci's Ristorante - OMG, they have amazing pizza & Italian dishes.
*Islands - Good burgers, chicken burgers and cheese fries.
*Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ - good ribs & steak.
*Baja Fresh - takeout fastfood kinda place, expensive, good.
*L&L Hawaiian BBQ - good chicken katsu & gravy fries.
*Olivie Garden - pasta galore! My favorite place other than Angelo and Vinci's.

You can always check out some at Yellowpages, see if there's anything you find interesting. Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

      Portillos in Buena Park.

It's worth any drive from 1 - 100 miles! lol

It's a Chicago based hot dog and beef joint. VERY popular!

look up OC Weekly online. They have a restaurant section that gets off the beaten path.

There's plenty of good food in Cypress!

          Curry House - Japanese Curry
          10953 Meridian Dr. #P, Cypress, CA‎ - (714) 527-6224

This is a chain but it's a very good chain. My favorite is their corn soup, Katsu Chicken with curry over rice.

Cafe Hiro - Gourmet Japanese Soul food
          10509 Valley View St, Cypress, CA‎ - (714) 527-6090‎

This place also has curry but it's more home-made and really good. I wouldn't discount Curry House above because Cafe Hiro has other options as well and both hit the spot.

Loft Hawaiian Restaurant (DO NOT GO TO L&L)
          5950 Corporate Ave, Cypress, CA‎ - (714) 484-9802‎

The Loft is the place to go. Island Style Fried Chicken is the best. Try their Spam Musubi (spam, rice, sauce, wrapped in seaweed).

          Gomen - Japanese Ramen
          7147 Katella Ave, Stanton, CA‎ - (714) 761-8007‎

I've been to every Ramen house in Little Tokyo and this little place on the border of Cypress and Stanton has the very best Mabo Ramen (spicy tofu with ground beef soup sauce over noodle). Their fried rice is really good too.

          Dragon 21 Chinese
          10503 Valley View Street, Cypress, CA‎ - (714) 828-1818‎

This is a newer location but pretty good. I've only had it twice.

          Volcano Burgers
          3652 Cerritos Ave, Los Alamitos, CA‎ - (562) 430-6004‎

If you want a burger stand place, Volcano is pretty good for it. Or you can go to...

          Paul's Place
          10501 Knott Ave, Cypress, CA‎ - (714) 826-6261‎
          5008 Katella Ave, Los Alamitos, CA‎ - (562) 431-1165‎

I've only been to the Los Al location but it's also good burger stand place to go when you're in the mood.

When you're ready to explore outside of Cypress, I can help you there as well.

Hahaha, with the exception of a few of the places Cohete listed, I've been to every single one of those places (including A&V Ristorante and Portillos).

Thanks for the OC Weekly online reference. I'll check up on that.

Keep the suggestions coming! I swear, if it wasn't for my active lifestyle, I'd be the size of a cow. I LOVE food!

Wow... if you're comparing things to Olive Garden, Im surprised you haven't liked EVERYTHING lol!! OG is horrible in my opnion.

I would go to a site like chow.com (I think that's right) or getlocal... some place where people review food. That is what I have done, after moving to a toally unfamiliar area! Good luck :S

Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                It was pain
                Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

If you want to go as far as Brea (91 East, 57 North, exit Imperial Hwy) there's a restaurant called TAPS Seafood & Brewery that is excellent.

                  101 E Imperial Hwy, Brea, CA - (714) 257-0101
TAPS - Fish House & Brewery

                  In Fullerton:

Heroes Bar & Grill. They serve MASSIVE servings of bar food and they have quite a lot of beer on tap as well. Baskets of fries, good burgers, peanut shells all over the floor.. it's a good place to kick with the buddies.

                  125 W Santa Fe Ave, Fullerton, CA‎ - (714) 738-4356‎

Right next door to Heroes is:
The Continental Room, Fullerton's oldest drinking establishment is like a place that Frank Sinatra would be drinking at. It's worth checking out at least once because my friends and I used to love going there. But recent reviews about rude waitresses... I dunno if it's changed. I'll have to go back for another look.
                  115 W Santa Fe Ave, Fullerton, CA‎ - (714) 526-4529‎

Slidebar Rock n Roll Cafe, owned by the band LIT, this is a restaurant / bar you can go to see a lot of Orange County rock band memorabilia, bar stools made out of snare drums, and tables made out of equipment cases. They have live music 6 days a week so you never know who's gonna show up... maybe some guys from Green Day or No Doubt. You'll never know.
                  122 E. Commonwealth Ave, Fullerton, CA‎ - (714) 871-2233‎

If i think of anything else I'll list them here.

The only place I don't recommend is the Loft Hawaiian place, I went there once and it was absolutely disgusting, bad service, boring and terrible tasting food.
Maybe it was just a bad experience, but you can bet that I'll never step foot in that place ever again.

That's right by where I work

And I agree, The Loft was really bland when I had it and that was about a year ago.

I have spent hours in many of these places! Especially Katella Deli...it was my best friend's favorite spot to grab breakfast. Even now I think of him when I see the name.
And he just adored Volcano burger.
                              *sigh*
