LONDON – A judge has sentenced a cast member of the "Harry Potter" films to 120 hours of community service for growing marijuana.
Twenty-year-old Jamie Waylett, who plays school bully Vincent Crabbe in the magical movie franchise, pleaded guilty to producing the drug at a court hearing last week.
Prosecutors say police found 10 marijuana plants growing in a bedroom at Waylett's mother's London house.
Producing cannabis carries a maximum 14-year sentence. Judge Timothy Workman said Tuesday that he accepted the cultivation was on a small scale and for Waylett's own use.
He said the actor had been, "until now, a man of good character."

I always knew Slytherin was the most likely to be drug pushers.

Sadly this is another example of celebrities (no matter how big or small) getting away with things a regular person wouldn't get away with. Good for him for not going to jail but that still doesn't seem fair. If someone else had been growing 10 plants and said it was "just theirs" they would be in jail anyway.

I heard on the news that due to budget cuts, more lower level criminals might get community service to keep them out of jails and prisons.

Aww, he was a friend of Melissa Anelli (headmistress at the-leaky-cauldron.org)'s too.

              Oh well.

Oh, and to the OP, you might want to add a source.

Here maybe. I haven't heard anything about London having to make budget cuts though. But hey, if that's what they're doing, that's great.

Not so much here in Sacramento. Everyone is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law (and beyond) regardless of the present and future cost. It is a simple matter of justifying keeping Police and District Attorneys on staff. Keep the need high, you get the funds to keep staff.

                  Politics ends up being sucky...

Yeah, another celebrity pothead that only gets a slap on the wrist. And let's see his community service will be to make a public service announcement saying pot is bad and don't do it and stay in school and see my next movie.

Stalking is when two people go for a long romantic walk together but only one of them knows about it.
