  • Happy Birthday Barbossa!

Happy birthday to a loyal MiceChatter from British Columbia, getting ready for the Winter Olympics just a few months from now.

And if I am not mistaken, he hits the big 3-0 today.

    I know, he's a youngster. What can I say?

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

30 is great! I can't see it in my rear view mirror but I remember it fondly. Happy Birthday!

Thanks for the birthday wishes Micechatters!

It was a pretty slow and boring day yesterday. I know turning the big 3-0 is a milestone, but still being unemployed, I wasn't that much in the mood to celebrate. My sister and her boyfriend did take me out for supper so that was good. We tried going to see District 9 after but the theater was packed so we're going to try and see it next weekend. After leaving the theater, my sister and I went to one of the two local casinos. For your birthday, you can get $5 free to play. So I played some slots. That was gone in about a minute. We then headed to the other casino, where you can get $10 on your birthday. I just cashed in my certificate and got the $10 there. So it was a pretty non-exciting birthday, however, it wasn't all that bad...

I did get two earlier substanial gifts from my parents. The first was a big roadtrip with my dad last month. At first it was just supposed to be a few days to Oregon, but then it evolved into a bigger trip to Crater Lake, Reno, Ely, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde, Durango, Arches National Park, and a few other places. Basically a big trip through the southwest that took us thru 10 states, over an 18-day period. We visited a few railroad attractions as well. I'll eventually post a big trip report in the "Other Them Parks and Destinations" section, but I'm still sorting thru photos, lots of them. The other gift was an unexpected emergency purchase: a new car. I had to upgrade my old (and first) car, an '86 Nissan Multi (Nissan Stanza in the US) to a '98 Honda Odyssey. We got it for cheap at a local Auto Auction that takes place every Saturday. The Odyssey runs great. I like it. What happened to my first car was that the frame was very badly rusted so we had to basically condemn it.

So my 30th wasn't that bad, I just wish that I had a job again. Last year when I started working, I was hoping to spend my 30th in Disneyland, but then, shortly after I started, the lay-off came. Oh well. recently, I did find another company I want to work for in Calgary, so hopefully I can get their attention in the next few weeks, and hopefully I'll be employed again for my 31st.

Best wishes Barbossa! Glad to see you had at least some fun on your birthday.

And I am sure your excitement for the Winter Games is building.

And I'm with you on the work thing. I'm in the same boat, albeit I'm 23 years your elder!

Thanks again. Speaking of the Olympics, on my birthday on Monday, they opened up the new Canada Line rapid transit line from downtown all they way to Richmond and the Vancouver airport. Too bad I wasn't there in Vancouver I could've rode the train, however, rides were free that day and wait times were about 4 hours. Maybe Translink should've taken a hint from Disney and installed Fastpass machines for the day . It was interesting timing that it opened on my b-day, it's like when BC Place Stadium opened (where the ceremonies are going to be held), it was on my sister's 10th birthday. I remember we went to the opening ceremonies for that. I was only 4. I do hope to get over to Vancouver next February if it all works out. I don't have any tickets for any events, however, you can probably get those at the last minute from scalpers. I do want to go there for the pin trading at least. Accomodations won't be a problem as I have friends that live in Surrey, Burnaby, and up at Whistler . We'll see how it goes. Priority number one for me right now is to find work. If I don't find a job, I'll be sitting here watching the games on TV, and a little mad knowing that they are live only a five hour drive away.
Here's some pics from the new rapid transit line:

You might have to scroll a bit in that thread. There's also a few photos in the previous pages there.
