  • Orange County, CA residents (and visitors), please help defend your cities!

I have a request to make, and appreciate your help in advance.

I am known as an "expert" over at TripAdvisor.com and someone posted the following comments in a thread.

Metrolink Ticket - Anaheim Forum - TripAdvisor

Because other than Disneyland, Anaheim has very little to offer. It is a very plain Southern California suburb--tract homes, strip malls, and the like. Los Angeles, on the other hand, is a real city with much to offer. Even if it's just R&R.....

Hint: Must go to a city to find culture. Orange County is a collection of suburbs.
NO, those comments are just plain wrong, and I would love to see a few posts regarding where you found things to do OTHER than Disneyland, and where you can find Culture. I have mentioned a few on the thread, but I think multiple voices posting their own opinions will help let this misguided person see the light.

Note, please do NOT bash LA, it is also a great place to visit. Just keep the comments positive towards Anaheim and Orange County.

Once again, thanks in advance for your help in letting folks know there is more to see and do than just Disneyland in Anaheim/Orange County.

(Who knows, maybe the poster is just upset that Anaheim now has its own walk of stars.

Orange county is an amazing place when it comes to cultural diversity. I remember driving past a strip mall that had stores called "Peluqueria Unisex", "Nguyen Hoang Restaurant", "Sanchez Liquors and Cigarretes", and "Spider's Den of Tattoos". And the OC is the only place where you can order Italian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese, and American food from the same delivery place.

david, what I would like to know is this: what does the editor of the newspaper have against Disneyland? its a good place. actually, its the place. what other place is where you can go to forget what is going on in the world and relax and have fun????????

tell you what, some of my family members have lived from time to time in the l.a. area, and let me tell you this: from I have seen, ho-hum, run of the mill, you have seen it, shopped there, ate there, time to go home.

however, that writer needs to not paint southern california in a negative way. so cal has lots to offer.

      well anyhoo, note to self:

      get-off-soapbox-and-let-others-share-their-views.

      kudos to orange county

and thumbsup and :squeeze: and viva la Disneyland

The OC has sooo much to offer. It has some of the most beautiful beaches in the state such as Laguna Beach. It has world class shopping at the South Coast Plaza. And additional entertainment with Knotts Berry Farm, Soak City, and Raging Waters

Huntington Beach is know for its surfing, the Crystal Cathedral is a very famous church, and it is home to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

There is so much more to the OC than Disneyland!!

Raging Waters is in LA County. Maybe you were thinking of Wild Rivers?

Ok here is my contribution: any of the beaches. OC is not just about Disneyland. In fact it might be surprising to some people on this board to know that there are millions of people who visit OC and never step one foot inside of the DLR. Many of these people stay at the 5 Diamond resorts in Newport or Laguna and stay only in that area, enjoying the beaches, fine dining and shopping, and fine performing arts that OC has to offer.

In my opinion, if anyone is planning a Southern California vacation I highly reccommend staying in OC if anything because of its central location to all of what there is to do in the area. It is between LA and San Diego. It isn't too far from the desert and of course it is a coastal county so the beaches are never far away. And in the winter it is also close to several ski resorts.

You're the "expert", fight your own fights! If you can't dazzle him with your brilliance, baffle him wth your B.S...

The poster in the other forum is expressing his opinion. He has a right to do that. And he is just one person...

Is someone that doesn't care for the Matterhorn "misguided" too??? Are we suppose to pound some sense into the folks that don't care for such a highly regarded ride too??? Please...

Just because you don't agree with him you want us to help you out???

Asking the members of MC to gang up on him and "show him the light" sounds like elementary school-yard bully tactics to me... Let the fine folks from the OC that frequent the other site stand up for themselves. Why recruit other forum members to do the dirty deed???

Educating the poster of the other benefits of the OC is one thing. Promoting/enciting an internet riot is quite the other.

If the "offending" poster on Tripadvisor knew about this thread, he might have one more thing to say about the OC. Well, at least about one person in the OC...

I would have thought that Tripadvisor would expect a certain level of professionalism from the folks that they consider "experts"...

And yes, we do enjoy the beaches of Newport Beach on occassion. They are great!

well, the OC has a lot to offer, but Anaheim not to much. I would say Disney is the only draw. The quote above mentioned Anaheim...not all of Orange County.

Well, true that they wouldn't be there if Disney hadn't be there first, but there is a first-class convention facility, a great major concert and indoor sports venue (the Honda Center) and one of the nicer stadiums in major league baseball just across the street from that...there are smaller concert venues also in the area...

yeah, it, and all of the OC, has it's share of Home Depots, Costcos, WalMarts and homogenized strip malls..but what area of Southern California doesn't.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

                        Fixed.

Did anyone mention Fashion Island in Newport Beach? I saw SCP was mentioned.

Rick Warren's Saddleback Church is another well-known megachurch in Orange County, as is Chuck Smith's Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, and across the freeway from South Coast Plaza is the home of the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Also, the original Ruby's Diner is located on the end of Balboa Pier in Newport Beach. Lunch or dinner there is not to be missed.

Also, Orange County is home to the famous Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Anaheim has the Flightdeck Air Combat Center.

There's also Downtown Anaheim, which has a nice selection of fun things to see and do.

Also, the Anaheim Public Library is a great place to check out books and other reading and viewing material, and the architecture is classic midcentury design.

There is also the Anaheim Plaza.

For classic family fun, there is the famous Linbrook Bowling Center. Don't deny your family the delight of a night on the lanes here.

As a breakfast treat, take the fam to the Original Pancake House on East Lincoln Blvd.

Later, treat them to a classic burger drive-in lunch at Angelo's Hamburgers on State College Blvd. (the last 50s diner in Orange County).

Last but not least, there is a delightful Norm's Restaurant on Lincoln Blvd., just off the 5 Freeway. You cannot beat Norm's for dinner.
