  • flickr or photobucket?

Hey all! I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but here goes...

I need to post my photo HEAVY trip report, but I am having issues.
If I use photobucket, I have to go through and upload every single pic individually....ugh. Time consuming and monotonous.

So I tried Flickr, and they offer bulk uploads. So my uploading went quickly, but when I tried to post them in the forum, the codes that were provided for "sharing" were only showing links. They were not showing regular pics at all. I tried all the codes offered and even asked in the Flickr forum, but nobody answered me.

So, am I doing something wrong? Or maybe there's a better site I don't know about?

    Anyone have suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Re: flickr or photobucket?

I'm not sure if this is the answer you're looking for but, when I use my images from Flickr, I click on the "All Sizes" button above the image I want to post, and grab the direct link that is provided.

Then when posting to the forums, I use the code "[IMG]image url[/IMG]"

Photobucket would be a lot easier, plus it holds more than Flickr (unless you pay for Flickr, of course). If you hold down the CTRL button and left click on the pictures, you'll be able to upload 50 at a time without having to do it one by one (under the Java/Flash loader, not simple uploader). It's a lot faster, by far.

If you choose that way, then they'll give you 4 links. Use the [img][/img] tags

I was wondering where the heck your trip report was!!!!!

I'm sorry, I can't help you. I always use Photobucket. It was the one that was simple enough for my simple mind to understand.

Good luck, though! I can't wait to see the results!

Photobucket does have a bulk uploader - it even asks if you want to use the bulk upload.

I'm gonna try all this again with Photobucket....

                Thanks for the input, peeps!

                  Re: flickr or photobucket?

Flickr is more for professional photography, while Photobucket is usually used for just uploading stuff for fun.

                  I personally love Flickr.

I actually prefer Webshots, I've been using them since 2001. The free option gives you 1000 photos to upload and the links (in various sizes) are posted under each photo. It also comes with a free photo download manager that helps you manage your photos and upload entire folders at any time. You select the pictures, click upload and come back when its done. I love it!

I highly recommend it as I've never had issues with it.

Hey Summer, I use webshots too, I am having trouble trying to figure out how to use it in this forum, any advice? Maybe I am just missing something, lol. Since I couldn't use webshots I used photobucket, never tried Flickr yet, but I do know photobucket does have a bulk uploader.

                        Thanks all!

The reason why I didn't do the photobucket 'bulk download' at first was that it was moving heinously slow. Not so today....I finally posted my TR!! Woot!

                          Re: flickr or photobucket?

flickr looks good until you use it for awhile and it's too limiting in the free account. They only mention the 100 uploads a month (I think that was the number) but there is actually a total size limit as well they kind of.. gloss over. Plus, you can only have 3 'sets' or albums in the free account.

Photobucket has bandwidth caps and is way more fugly to deal with or browse.

This last year I got frustrated and just went looking for a pay site. Smugmug rocks.. if you aren't interested in videos, its awesome. Google for a discount code, and you can have unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth for like $20 a year. If you want to put many photos online for various things besides Micechat.. it's the way to go.

Sure, when you have a photo up, on the right hand side there is a tabbed area called "link to this picture" with the numbers 100,200,425,500 etc.. Those are sizes, when you click the tab you want you have two choices. You can copy and paste the direct link using the image code that MiceChat provides. (This ) OR you can use the code that webshots provides that gives you a clicky directly to your photos. Like this...

                            [URL=http://family.webshots.com/photo/2787005770033443741ZqwtFb][IMG]http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/29/2787005770033443741S500x500Q85.jpg[/IMG][/URL]

I bolded the code so you could see it but it turns into this...

Webshots also allows video but Micechat doesn't have embedding for that but you can paste the link.

                            Hope that helps.

                              Good morning, son

Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                              It was pain
                              Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

And also against their Terms of Service. Flickr states you must include the link to the page as well if you link to images on your Flickr site. You must include the URL tag, as well as the IMG tag to stay proper with Flickr's rules.

Plus, you must click on the other view to even get to the size you want. Photobucket makes that much easier for you.

Flickr looks nice and clean... but its a dead-end I'm telling you. You hit your limits and then you hate yourself for spending any time with Flickr.

I did a test and the photo shows up thumbnail size, I will try again with your instructions and see if it works, maybe I'm just over thinking it, lol!!
