When do You Undeck the Halls?

I love all the Christmas decor when it's up, but the minute Christmas is over, I'm chomping at the bit to take all the decorations down and "get back to normal". So, today all my decorations came down and were put back in storage for another 11 months. I'm a little early this year, but since I won't be around too much next weekend, I wanted to get it done.


Now that Christmas is over, when do you undeck the halls and take down your decorations?

Usually Jan 2. Thats when all holidays are over and real life starts back up

I usually wait, but I am very eager to take them down this year.

Shhh. Dont tell my husband... he would think I was joining his "anti tree" team.... and that is not the case. So, to remain his opponent in such matters I will leave the tree up another week and chuckle when he complains about it being time to take it down.

Usually, because of the time I don't have, I take them down Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This year might be a week earlier, but I never like taking them down before New Years.

In fact, we have the tree and outside lights on right now.

If I do decorate, usually a week after Christmas.

But there was one time when I was in high school, I had my own little tree and lights in my bedroom... one year I didn't take them down until June. :lol:

mine were never decked, but my mother used to undeck her halls on 12/26...not sure if she still does or not.

I think this is one of my reasons to get it down sooner rather than later...I'm afraid if I don't do it pretty quick, I'll get busy/lazy and it'll end up staying decorated until summer

Since my husband is on vacation until the 4th of January, I won't be taking down the decorations until he goes back to work. He loves the tree. He lights it up every night, even now that Christmas is over.

All my stuff was taken down yesterday. Its not boxed or put away, its still scattered all over the bed in the spare room, but its down. :blush: I'm picking up two extra 12 hour days at job # 2 this week, so I want it down and done so I can have a bit of time to myself before I have to go back to work at job # 1.

Being a good Catholic boy, I keep it up until the epiphany.

Does anyone know when that is this year?

VF...I'm with you. Christmas decorations have been up long enough! I like to have everything down and put away by NYE.

I work in a dining room at a senior community and I'm wanting to put up blue icicle lights and giant snowflakes for a January/winter theme.


One funny thing you made me think of ......I saw some folks buying a Christmas tree on the 23rd of December and I said out loud to my daughter "I've always wondered why some people wait till right before CHristmas to buy their trees." She said "maybe they just don't like dealing with the nettles." We both started laughing because obviously she meant to say "needles.")

All I have is my little 2ft tree, my Charlie Brown tree, a thing on my front door and a few some ornament lights on my patio. It'll take me 15-20 minutes to take it all down and put away. I can't have a lot of decorations because my one cat gets into EVERYTHING, so I can't trust him. I even had to put the tree out of his reach because he's tried tried to chew on it.

We usually take them down around Jan 6, cause being hispanic we celebrate the arrivel of the Three Wise Men when they went to vist baby Jesus, thus we keep all the decorations up until then.

Wasn't the Saturday after Christmas December 26th this year? You must mean a full week and then a Saturday after Christmas right?


Does when people put their decorations up influence when they take them down? We always put our decorations up the day after Thanksgiving so by Christmas day , they've been up almost a full month.

We usually take our stuff down after New Year's. For my family, that's when everything goes back to normal. heh

The week after New Year's is what we shoot for, but it really has more to do with our crazy schedule and how much time we have.

I always seem to find Christmas things that we forgot to put away for months.
