If you have a profile on Classmates.com and have your account set to manual renewal double check it. I signed up in December of 08 and set my account for manual renewal. I do this all the time since I never know if I will have the money to pay for the subscription. Well I got my credit card statement yesterday and there was a charge from them for $39. I haven't logged in to my account since the summer and I doubled checked it then to make sure it was still set to manual and it was.
I called them yesterday to find out why they charged me and was told it was set to auto renewal but was changed yesterday to manual. How convienent it's now manual after you get your money. The woman I talked to said there was nothing they could do and basically I was out of luck. I went searching on the internet to see if there were any other complaints about them and I found 16 pages of posts on the Consumer Affairs web site about this happening, a lot this month alone. Even people that removed their credit card removed from the site were charged.
I called them again today and got the charge reversed after being on the phone with them for 45 minutes. They kept wanting to give me only half the amount but told them the only way to make me happy was to refund the full amount. I told them I would send a complaint to the BBB if they wouldn't help. I just had to keep pressuring them and they finally caved in. I also made them send me an email saying the would never charge me again and that I have been removed from their system. I printed out the pages of my account showing that they don't have my credit card number listed also, just incase.
So if you have an account with them and have it set at manual renweal, double check your credit card or bank statement to make sure you didn't get charged. Let your friends and family know about this also. By the info on the internet it seems like this is a problem.
