  • Come to Torrance's COSTCO to buy for the AFTERLIFE

This is one thing that I am not proud about the city that I live in. The Costco store here in Torrance is selling caskets for $800 and you can get it in 48 hours. The display is right near the front which is weird with all of the holiday items. I guess if you want a bargain it doesn't matter where you go. I am glad that I don't like shopping there.

But if you decorate the casket for the holidays it might cheer things up a bit.

Hey - maybe it's bedroom furniture for goths!

I once knew a girl who had one. And, she also drove an old hearse.

Uh well sometimes a death is expensive and financial difficulty can make it difficult for a family to afford a proper burial. Maybe they don't believe in cremation, so this affordable option is removed. So saving a couple hundred dollars on a casket could really really help in a time of tragedy.

Do you get a bigger discount for buying in bulk?

My initial reaction to this thread was "good for them AND us!" The funeral industry has traditionally preyed on the grief stricken for decades by overcharging for services and materials. About time someone takes a no nonsense approach.

When I visited Harrods in London for the first time 36 years ago I was surprised to find a funeral department among the upper floors. Believe it was close to their travel agency which greatly amused me. They had caskets on display and full funeral arrangements available.

The changes in the times at funeral homes are interesting. A close bike riding buddy of mine who works as a funeral director here in my city says that more people are opting to cremate because it is cheaper. Sad thing is the funeral is largely becoming a inconvenience to SOME. So I applaud Costco for helping out.

If I was planning to be buried, I'd say get my casket at bargain price. It's not like I'll complain in a year! As noted in a previous post, deaths are expensive and I'd hate to saddle my loved ones with that kind of expense if other options are available.

As far as services go, you can still have a service and an interment with cremains. That's what we did with my dad; one of two times in my life he was in the church. A little box on the baptismal font, next to a vase with a rose from each of us in the family, and everybody talked about dad. Then we had cake and coffee (hey, we're Lutherans!).

I can see the ads now.

A picture of a happy young family huddled around a dark black casket peering curiously into the white satin bedding within.

the headline reads "A deal to die for!"

                              the copy says:
Right now Costco is slashing prices 6 feet under with these beautiful caskets perfect for your next funeral get together. Buy in Bulk and save!

In inlay graphic inside a yellow starburst reads "Also visit our deli for great Funeral food Ideas!"
"All my life I've had one dream, to achieve my many goals.
