Today (11/23) is the day I surpassed my previous record of 9203 cycling miles in a single year. If I maintain my current pace of about 200 miles/week, I should finish 2012 with over 10,000 miles in the saddle.
You may think that I am a gifted athlete and have competed on a bicycle since my youth. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I took up cycling in my late forties, joined a club, and just kept going. I learned to ride better, eat better, and found my weight dropping and my fitness improving. Now in my sixties, I find myself much stronger and 25 pounds lighter than I was at almost any other time in my adult life.
I did not start this year with a goal of 10,000 miles in mind. Riding with friends and staying upright were (and are) my foremost goal. It's only lately that I realized I may pass this milestone.
I'll add to this thread from time to time and continue to update my signature with current stats every few days.
