  • Have you ever wondered this?

Have you ever wondered why message boards keep track of a members post count? As I was typing an earlier post, that question popped into my head. I only discovered message boards, when I discovered MiceChat.

I know here at MiceChat, a lot of members are proud of the number of posts that they have. Other members do not really care. They post for information. They post to ask questions. People post for different reasons.

Back to my original question. Why keep track? Are we a society of statistics? Is it a computer thing? Does it have something to do with computers that I know nothing about. Does every post have an historical signifigance to the website?

Has any one else wondered this, besides me?

The reason we have post counts is so that everyone on this site knows that Karla has way too much time on her hands.
Introducing- The Geek Tutorial! The new informational webseries on computers and the geekiness of life.

Screw eHarmony- I met my soulmate at Star Trek: The Experience. :geek:

Random funny exchange from Star Trek: The Experience:

BF: "If you take any photos on the attraction, we will shoot you with a phaser."
    Guest: "On stun?"
    BF: "Maybe....."
    Me: "I wouldn't trust him."

Karla? Egads! Have you seen RW's?

It's because some of us suffer from post envy.

      And yes, size does matter.

Ideally, I think the post count is to show how long you've been around and how much you have contributed to the community at large in Micechat.

        But the blingage...now THAT'S a status symbol.

It shows how much...of a TOTAL LOSER that person is!

And we have some SERIOUS losers in Micechat!

I'd actually prefer that none of us had a post count. I for one simply enjoy MiceChatting, Ba-ba-ba-ba-barbaraann.

I think in theory it should add to certain peoples credibility. The more posts, the more credible. Although I can think of a FEW exceptions to that rule

Also, the system-that-cannot-be-named-but-starts-with-an-R has overtaken post counts in the credibility department, IMO.

:ap: Actually the admin has the ability to turn off the post count in any forum that they choose. I think it's more of a way for a member to know how much time they have spent having a good time in one place. :ap:

And NO! I am NOT JEALOUS! I'm perfectly content with my measley two thousand and something. Not ALL of us can be so....so....well endowed!

*LDF eyes the 7600 posts hungrily with a manic look on his face*
