  • Retirement Gift Ideas?

So, my dad REALLY retires in like a week (yay to me for for being so on top of things!!).

I'm trying to think of something good and funny to get him (it has to be mailable!).

There is this OLD headshot of him that we've made fun of through the years... I was thinking of having my mom send e thhat and doing something with it??? Even though it's from IBM, which he retired from years ago.

He's with a police department now... so maybe something police related? (He's not a cop).

    Eh, I dunno. Suggestions??
    TIA
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

    Re: Retirement Gift Ideas?

Wow, thats hard. I usually give something crystal for a retirement. But in this case that wouldn't work. If its coming from family something more personal, like something with the picture. Does he have a really good sense of humor? Does he have any hobbies/interests?

Oh yeah, he has a great sense of humor. That's why I was thinking of doing something w/the pic. But soince it's from his old job...

Maybe I could find some small crystal or something he could put somewhere or something (wow vague!!) that I can mail.

He likes golfing and watching sports, esp. NASCAR. He likes to garden and BBQ. That's about it that I can think of.

Last retirement party I went to we gave a nice bottle of his favorite alcohol. Other people bought him stuff he could use for his hobby, which was working on his car. They brought all sorts of car parts and tools.

          My parents don't drink
Maybe I can find some kind of golfing retirement thing. I just feel bad because I gave him golf stuff for christmas, which was like 2 months ago.
          Bleh.

                      Re: Retirement Gift Ideas?

Well, I did some Internet searching and I think I will get him a cookie boquet (or just a bundle of cookies!) or maybe the huge cookie from Mrs. Fields. He'll kill me (cookies!!) but it's better than something to just sit around and gather dust.

My mom retires in May... be prepared for THAT thread! I'll probably get her the same thing!
