  • Sad News "Kirby Puckett" Dies...

MINNEAPOLIS(AP) Kirby Puckett, the bubbly, barrel-shaped Hall of Famer who carried the Minnesota Twins to two World Series titles before his career was cut short by glaucoma, died Monday after a stroke. He was 45.
Puckett, whose weight gain in recent years concerned those close to him, was stricken early Sunday at his Arizona home. He died at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
"He was a Hall of Famer in every sense of the term," commissioner Bud Selig said. "He played his entire career with the Twins and was an icon in Minnesota. But he was revered throughout the country and will be remembered wherever the game is played. Kirby was taken from us much too soon _ and too quickly."

I've never been a fan of baseball, but my heart goes out to his family at this time. Thats just way to young to be hit with something like a stroke and lose his life! Thoughts and prayers for his family!

Too young too go, Kirby deserved the Hall of Fame, and he did! Great baseball player for sure. He will be missed.

I will never forget the Puck catch & HR in game 6. He'll be missed and its too bad the last few years have been so poor in the papers for him. He always seemed like a great guy for the game. Tragic.

I really don't have words at this point, I'll try to come up with something more in depth tomorrow. I'm a Minnesota kid who grew up in the 80's and 90's. Those not from Minnesota only partially know the impact he had on the Twin Cities, Minnesota and the upper-midwest even. Kirby was my baseball idol growing up and the idol of practically every young boy and girl. The day it was announced that he had to retire due to glaucoma was as heartbreaking to all of us as Magic Johnson's announcement was to Laker fans. His life after baseball may have not been the best, but he was human. I am so very happy that he was inducted into the Hall of Fame while he was still around to enjoy the ultimate honor. I only hope that history remembers him for the great things he did as a baseball player and as a person during his career.

...Batting third, the centerfielder, No. 34 Kirbyyyyyyyyyyy Puckett!

:crybye: Puck, you will be missed :crybye:

I was never a Twins fan but you couldn't help but be a Kirby Puckett fan.

I saw this morning that he had a stroke. This is truly a sad day for baseball. They have lost one of their greatest ambassadors.

I am really sad, he was way to young to go. Do we know what actualy happend to him or was it truly a stroke from being overweight?

Today the sun may shine but its gloomy all over.

                      You'll be missed Kirby.

I couldn't agree anymore. It's something that I remembered about him when I was young, his smile. It's really a sad day here in Minnesota. The news last night was really more of a "We love you Kirby" show. The memorial on the news now was showing the memorial outside the meterdome. There was a young girl, eight years old, who spoke far beyond her years about him. "He could lose five games in a row and still act the same was as if he won five games in a row." Her name? Kirby. She was named after him. It was quite touching... as sweet as it is, seeing it all breaks my heart.

I heard this on the radio. Bummer. The World Series win was my junior year of high school, 1987. They let us out of school so we could go see the parade. My friends didn't believe me when I told them the bus would come the next block over (we took the bus downtown rather than drive).

                              We'll miss you, Kirby.
