A Casino designed by Imagineers????

After posting my adult only topic and thinking a lot about Disney and adults, an idea creeped into my mind last night while I was running...

What if the Imagineers were tapped to create a casino in Las Vegas?(NOT A DISNEY CASINO)

Just another Steve Wynn themed casino built by the same minds who brought us Disneyland? Again not in any way related to Disney or the Mouse or any of the films or properties, just a new casino. I just want to hear your thoughts...

EG-I have always been impressed with the lobby of ToT and thought wow if the same team who created this were allowed to make a Haunted Casino, wow it would be amazing.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the modern casinos had been influanced by former imagineers..... Think about it... from dull to themed up the wazzzo....

and gtting more enchanced as the yars go by....

I agree...in fact with so many of the casino having those indoor malls with the fake painted ceilings, I was thinking it would be incredible for a 3rd gate entrance at DL to have in cased as you enter.

More than just the theming of the hotel, I wonder about what kind of rides, attractions and shows you could expect from the imagineers...

I think you would get Caesar's Palace, the Bellagio, the Venetian, and the new Wynn.
The hotels already have gorgeous facades and indoor areas. I really don't think Imagineers could really improve upon it, more like give the same amazing detail to other themes if the money is there of course.

As a result of Eisner's short-sightedness in letting most of Imagineering go over the years (in favor of making them contractors or outsourcing), your question isn't at all off the mark. Many ex imagineers are working on projects for other theme parks, design companies, mega resort projects, shopping malls, etc. Have you noticed how "Disney" many new large shopping centers on the east and west coast look? A lot of those designs were not only inspired by Disney, but designed by ex-Imagineers. What Disney did best, almost anyone can do today (with enough money).

Those gaudy casinos are about taking something real that someone else put their heart and soul into and trying to make an imitation and hopefully draw some bucks from people who come in to get their pictures taken in front of the rip-off clones. That's more like Eisner's style of Imagineering than Walt's.

Thats just it- I agree in a certain sense that the casinos are not nearly as well built or themed as some of the Disney parks, and while Dusty's comment about former Imagineers who have left the mouse- did design the casinos, my point is "what if the current or yesteryear imagineers were given the ability to create a casino under the same guidelines as the ydesign and imagine parks?" What wonderful incredible ideas and visuals could we expect?

That said I also acknowledge that since the late 80's casino theming has made leaps and bounds in improvements and as of late seems to be reversing to a more modern elegance as we see with the Bellagio, Manadalay Bay (theHOTEL), Venichian and the Wynn. the NewYork, NewYork which followed Treasure Island, Luxor and Caesers- was one of the last themed casinos on that scale.

I personally like a mixture of both and believe the Mandalay Bay offers both and still ranks as my favorite hotel and casino on the strip.

Personally, I like the idea because the imagineers could come up with a really spectacular casino design. I personally prefer the gaudy elegance (I know that's an oxymoron) of the Bellagio, Venetian, Paris LV, Mandalay Bay over the other really gaudy designs. To me, it reminds you that you're on vacation. I mean come on, I personally LOVE Vegas, but I couldn't live there (meaning on the Strip).

Moreover, I would like to see what the imagineers could do with an unlimited budget. Could you imagine what kind of hotel/resort/casino they could come up with? The creativity is definitely there...

They did, and have. All the Imagineers who have retired, and those who have been trained in the way of good planning and then laid off, have to find something to do to earn a living and/or keep from getting bored.

I offer as Exhibit A, Bob Gurr and his involvement with the Pirate Battle Show at Treasure Island Resort & Casino. Further discussion of which can be found over at Doobie's place.

If Disney wanted to, they could come easily come up with projects and contracts to keep a large permanent Imagineering staff on payroll (and out of the hands of the competition) all the time. Let them take on outside work for other companies under the WDI banner when the Disney organization doesn't have a job for them.

But some brilliant accountant decided that they would hire these people for a specific project lasting a year or two, and let them go when that job is done. People that now have more experience, and a pile of fresh ideas that couldn't be incorporated in the last project...
