  • Tell Me Something Strange...

This happened on Saturday and My Husband and I can't stop talking about it.

We went hiking at this beautiful waterfall in Minneapolis and we saw this guy sitting by it. He looked like a mountain man. He had on an animals hide hat, nasty dreadlocked hair, and no shoes. The bottoms of his pants were all torn up. Anyway, he was interesting so I started taking pics of him. He then got up and walked out on these rocks in the stream by this sleeping duck. He stood there really still for a long time. So I snapped a pic. See the sleeping duck on the rock?

We even joked, it looks like he's going to kill that duck. But we were joking. There were a bunch a people around and we never imagined he would do it. So we continued on our hike.
About a mile into it, here comes the mountain man up the trail carrying....a dead duck and a fish about a foot long!!!

We couldn't believe it! He had killed that duck AND a big fish (my husband said it was a northern) with a STICK in front of a large crowd of people. Needless to say the cops were called and they came and asked for my pics and got statements and such.

I thought it was awful of the guy to kill those animals in front of those people- there were A LOT of kids around! But my husband was super impressed that the guy did this with a stick and was barefoot.

Anyway, it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen and I wanted to share it with you all!

Anything strange happen to you lately?

I was hiking deep in a canyon, along a stream in the Santa Monica Mountains with my kids last summer. A man and his son approached and asked me if I knew much about the anatomy. I told him I could order in a french restaurant (yuk yuk) but other than that, no. He then told me he found a bag on intestines along the stream.

After later researching the history of the canyon, it came to my attention that Nazis used to hide out there during the war (the abandoned compound still exists and is thought to be haunted) and that now it is a hangout for satanic worshipers. The intestines were likely a part of a ritual (there should be a sign "curb your rituals").

    Only in LA.

        Wow! That's a wild story!

        Random thoughts:
        - I'm with your husband. That's quite an accomplishment with no weaponry.
        - Maybe something good came out of it with your pics and statement to the cops.
        - Any guesses on who it is?

        == Grizzly Adams? (who?)
== Michael Eisner? (lots of free time soon...)
== Cousin Orville (he did say he was 'going away for a while' )
These are the games that never end.

I am a bit impressed about the fish. The duck could be so used to being fed that it was no challenge at all.

As for the psychological damage to the children - I would be most worried about it making them abusive towards animals since their parents possibly have no idea of responsible hunting and/or will not have a talk about it with their children.

Hunting for food: nothing wrong with that.
Hunting animals just to kill them: wrong, in my opinion.
Abusing animals: Utterly and horribly wrong.
