Did you ever glance through the book? So many things happen simultaneously. It is sad that, try as Luc Besson did, he could not ~quite~ capture that.

No need to read it as it is an adaptation of the movie. I am sure, during the scene with the diva that jumps back and forth to Leeloo fighting, that you get the feeling it is all happening at once. There are a number of other occasion which the book points out better than film is able to. I wonder what the film would have been like if they had used split screens to show the simultenaity.
